Is it not good that he can spend a year and redshirt?

He gets stronger, learns the position, learns the playbook, technique... if we have the depth in front of him, why play him? no reason to waist him on garbage back up plays late in the game

smartest thing said in this thread. the rantards were all ejaculating about Spencer Ware but the truth is....just about anyone on this board (except maximus who has his head up a bull's arse looking for a snack) could have run through the holes the oline punched in the 'wretching crews' dline. have a nice day.

Is Dandy Don's prediction for LC any different than the guru's on here that say 2012 recruit is a LSU lock?

Incorrect.

Blackwell will not receive a medical redshirt because he was redshirted his freshman year. Last year was just a wasted year because his redshirt had already been burned. There is only one way Blackwell could receive a medical redshirt and that would be for him to suffer another early season-ending injury. We don't want that to happen.

The only way a player can successfully petition for that rare sixth year is to sustain two separate major season-ending injuries a la Kirston Pittman (knee, achilles tendon) or Charles Alexander (right knee, left knee).

I like DD and respect his opinions as a long time fan and follower but we're all prone to disagree time to time.

We won't have any pre-season OL selected to the all SEC (which I think is what he was saying) but I actually feel really good considering who's coming back with the experience. The future looks good too for that matter.

I wouldn't be surprised if Josh D, Alex H, PJ, and/or Blackwell turned the corner this year and finished All SEC. They all have the talent and pedigree to do it, staying healthy will be important to. I'm not saying they will but they've been around the block long enough to know how to do the job at hand.

Enthusiasm shouldn't be confused with knowledge or insight.

I think CLM has already alluded to the fact that 'a freshman might get PT @ O-line', but hopefully we don't need it.

Sir, it's done all the time at every college every year with FIRST YEAR PLAYERS. I know what it takes to get a medical after that first year, and as stated later in the thread, it must be considered a seperate injury......

But...'If he plays one single play he losses his redshirt."....is correct but not really correct because you can get it back..

You can redshirt and then get a medical redhirt as well? Kirston Pittman, Jason White and Case Keenum all got a 6th year after redshirting. It just doesn't happen a whole lot.

Blackwell wasn't a FIRST YEAR PLAYER though, he's a redshirt Sr. this year who has previously redshirted, so he can't just redshirt again. And it's not a given that you get a medical hardship, you have to wait until your four years of eligibility are up and petition the NCAA to let you have an extra year.

Are ya'll forgetting that Blackwell played at the end of the season... He was injured in the first game and eventually came back toward the end of the season.

GABlueDog explained it well, but it doesn't seem like you read his entire post:

The second paragraph isn't universally correct (e.g. Daniel Graff got a sixth year without being injured at all), but in this context it's spot on.

The answer is probably yes, but the reason he came back is because they knew he wasn't going to get the year back (i.e. get a 6th year).

Don basically said he expected Collins to redshirt to build bulk and improve technique. If Collins gets on the field this year, so what. Don doesn't make decisions for the coaches but his observations are better than most people's. He's also better informed than most. If it comes down to Don and some half-wit TD poster, I side with Don.

He would have to miss another year due to injury. If you only miss 1 year due to injury you will not get a waiver of the 5 year rule. Since the redshirt he took his FR year was voluntary and not forced due to injury or another circumstance, he will not get a waiver of the 5 yr rule

This is why hearsay is bullshite much of the time. You can go to DDs site and read that he clearly said ALL SEC not SEC-Caliber. The OP missed what he was saying (innocently) but its a nice example in print.
