similar size. run similar HS offenses mostly from the shotgun. both put a LOT of air under the ball with lofty throws. both show the ability to run some.

What are the things you are seeing that distinguish one from the other?

Comparing their respective running ability shouldn't be in your argument. Franks also takes several snaps from under center in his system. I actually don't like all of the air under the ball from either.

Kelly is D1, but his athletic ability is not comparable to Franks. I just don't see Kelly being a guy LSU pursues heavily.

The major difference at this point is Franks has done good work at camp in front of LSU coaches. I think their arm talent is comparable.

We are making a big mistake in my opinion if we don't offer Kelly. For his size he moves just fine, but he has a really big arm and it is going to get better with some coaching.

I'm about done with the option QBs if we aren't going to run the spread. If we stay under center with 2 TEs then this is the type of QB we need.

After watching that video on Franks a more appropriate characterization of his QB style is "athletic pocket passer". He's mislabeled as a "dual threat". The video shows that he looks to pass first everytime and only runs when he has a clear running lane.

At the beginning of his video it was all deep balls and I was like, "let's see some over the middle throws". Then toward the middle and end of the video the over the middle, WR screen, quick slant and timing curl route throws came.

I'm excited about Franks.

Franks is by far a better QB then Kelly.....I like how Franks has played under center and shotgun.

We don't need a QB that can sling the ball 300+yards every week.

We need a QB that can throw quick slants to our athletic WRs/TEs.

We need a QB that has a strong and accurate arm to throw downfield.

We need a QB that can run the ball if need be.

Having a QB that can loosen the defense will allow LSU rushing attack too take over a game. LBs hardly never looked for WR slants, TE curls, or RB swing passes because Jennings couldn't make the throw.

Franks can do all that plus more....... He is very mobile for his height/size and will only get bigger once he gets into the S/C program. I believe he is the future of LSU football...

I'm totally psyched about Franks and just hope the coaches give him an early shot at playing time..

I've watched Cole 6 times over past couple seasons

Franks is faster and superior athlete. Cole needs to be in a spread like Texas Tech that throws more.

Kelly is closer to a Mettenberger type QB. It's still early but Frank's appears to be more of a Mariota type. He prefers to stay in the pocket but has keen pocket awareness, quick feet and open field running skills. Kelly is not a run threat at the collegiate level. Both could be productive and succeed IMO. I'd prefer Franks playing against all of the great Dlines in the SEC.

Zach Mettenberger makes Cole Kelley look like Usain Bolt. Seriously. I hate to keep harping on it, but a lot of people are making assumptions that because he's a 6'7" white dude, he can't move.
