Obviously we are looking for good DT/NG from the portal. It’s more of a necessity than DB now.

Not just warm bodies either. Need players.

It appears that J Caldwell is all Texas and the board is down on all the rest.

With that said, I read where the upcoming players that will declare in the April Portal will not be able to play the fall of that year if the transfer within SEC.

That sounds like I’ve misunderstood what was said and the fault lies on me. Might be a good to to clarify for the whole board though.

Can spring portal guys come to LSU and play 2024?

Can intra SEC spring portalers play or have to sit out?

Anyone can transfer up to 2 times and will be immediately eligible. So any transfer we get either now or in April, regardless of where they transfer from, will be eligible to play next season.

The spring portal session cannot be one player from a sec school to another sec school. They can however come in from outside the conference.

I also think that if that player was already in the portal, and unsigned after the first session, they can still sign within the conference. Not 100% sure on that though.

SEC set a rule that a SEC player must be in the portal by Feb. 1 in order to be eligible to transfer to another SEC member institution and be eligible to participate in the upcoming season.

From 247 Sports

Dated Jan 27th, 2023, so not sure if anything has changed.

quote:

Another important factor to consider is that the SEC office established rules for intraconference transfers. Undergraduates seeking immediate eligibility this season were required to enter the NCAA transfer portal by January 18th. There is a little grace for graduate transfers who have until February 1st to announce their intentions.

The current SEC rule would prohibit any spring portal entrant to play within the league during the 2023 college football season. The rule has both critics and supporters. The transfer process continues to evolve. The legislation around it all continues to change with it. There are some who hope the SEC will simply adopt the NCAA guidelines for transfers and allow players to move freely throughout the conference no matter when they enter the portal. Others believe once a program goes through spring football that they should not have to worry about a player defecting and taking inside information to a potential opponent within the league.
As it stands today, the rule remains steadfast. Sources close to the situation share that SEC commissioner Greg Sankey has declared that there will be no waivers granted for transfers within the conference this spring. In order for that process to change, the SEC presidents would have to vote to adjust the current policy. A vote is expected to take place during the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament the week of March 8th through the 12th. How that vote goes remains to be seen, but the current belief is that the current rule will remain in place.

I am unaware of any SEC rule regarding transfer eligibility outside of the NCAA rules. The NCAA will allow immediate eligibility so long as players enter during the open windows when they transfer is not relevant, I believe. April 16th- April 30th is the spring window.

Play immediately if they enter in the April 16th- April 30th window unless the SEC has reestablished intra-transfer religions.

Spring transfers from the SEC can only play immediately if they’re a grad transfer.

Someone said you can transfer twice and be eligible immediately. That’s correct but the second time you’d have to be a grad transfer. 2nd undergrad transfer, you sit for a year unless the NCAA grants you a waiver.

I thought this rule was changed for basketball transfers and so I would think it has changed for football as well?

Didn't they recently rule against this in the courts? Things have changed if I’m not mistaken?

I'm wondering if there is a loophole regarding the DL coach we poach. Do the DLinemen at that school then have the ability to enter the portal outside of the normal time restraints? Maybe the DL coach could convince some of his players to enter and follow him to LSU.

Yeah, the 2 time undergrad transfer rule is paused for now. That’s why Denver Harris and Duce Chestnut are in the portal
