What do you do for a player that signs early and then there are wholesale staff changes during the season or during bowl week? What about a scenario where a program is sanctioned after the player signs early?

The same thing you do for a player when a program makes staff changes or receives sanctions after NSD.

im not talking about other sports or even early signing days. Just people that have no perspective on what recruiting is. It's not some video game.

Wut is Lester Earl talking about? The post is only about discussing some ideas of how the commitment process could be improved. It is important to always try to improve not just float through and accept the ways things have been done in the past. This post has nothing with fans, only about the process and its effect on recruits and schools.

I have an idea, not just a complaint. I would allow juniors to sign some sort of prelim commitment by August 1. Then, in early December, allow them to sign if they have stayed committed through that entire time. Visits are allowed to other schools. That eliminates the snap decisions, and give kids who truly want the opportunity to commit early the chance to do so.

Nothing, because coaches are just as guilty as players.... they offer a kid early and then don't tell him till a week or two before the deadline they no longer have room for him.

It's different for recruits because they have stepped foot on campus....they haven't played a down for the university. You can't penalize a recruit before he has even started school there, or before he has out on the jersey.

There probably needs to be a few different signing days. They need one in August right before school starts. That way schools could focus on the iffy players. This will never happen so no point in talking about it.

If there were an early signing period, this would both reduce uncertainty in the process as well as add efficiency so schools could focus their resources on the open spots rather than waste due to the uncertainy. Seems obvious.

You allow them to break their LOI. Don't they do this in basketball?

So are people still mad about Fowler? What about Cushenberry? Didn't LSU just offer him Tuesday night and he switched commitments?

No. Kids have changed their mind on NSD for over a decade. The grown arse men following the process need to grow up and not get their panties in a wad over 17 year old kids changing their minds. Its pathetic.

I agree with having an early signing period for football. Why not make it the same week in November as basketball does? That seems too easy a solution.

I wonder if the vested interests like social media and the recruiting sites like 247, Rivals, etc., plus ESPN would all combine forces and try to make sure that does not happen, plus perhaps some coaches and maybe school presidents?
