Assuming they sign to LSU, could guys in Baton Rouge that are still enrolled in high school (Brossette and Guice for example) workout with the team? Are they allowed in LSU facilities? Or could they theoretically go practice with the QBs/RBs at a BREC park or something?

Just curious if the coaches will try to take advantage of their proximity to campus to get them more prepared for the fall.

Practice/workout hours are limited by the NCAA for all players

They could do those things but have to sit out some practices/workouts in spring ball so there's no benefit to doing that

I know Mett and the WRs worked out together a shite ton on their own time during the summer, but all those guys were enrolled.

Just a thought, what stops these guys from going to the parade grounds and tossing the ball around? Don't take that statement literally.

Nothing as long as it's not organized or attended by staff

Just as long the coach is not out there watching them toss their balls around.

Until they are enrolled in school - they are still a prospect, essentially.. Signing the LOI only does a couple of things to make them transfer from "recruits" to "signees".

1. The coach is able to mention the player by name

2. The team can begin making preparations for receiving the player.

3. The team can communicate with the prospect on a relatively unlimited basis - more consistent with a player on the roster.

4. The team is able to outline a voluntary, off-season conditioning and nutrition program.

The other thing is, of course, their is a contract to provide a scholarship and a limitation on the player's choice if he decides to go/play somewhere else (essentially the transfer rules).

Now - I think the player can come in and do voluntary individual workouts over the summer, but I don't think they can workout with the team until they enroll or Fall ball - whichever comes first (i.e. they can enroll in summer, for example).

(ETA: Essentially, the team focuses on clearing house issues, if applicable, and other prep until the player is actually enrolled.)

So can guys that are in driving distance to campus use our facilities as long as coaches aren't there and they didn't organize it?

I'm not 100%, but I think so. They cannot participate in organized events, but other than that - they're signees and the school can allow them access to facilities - even rehab and medical, if I'm not mistaken - if they have a lingering injury from high school. I don't think the school can directly assist them with academics, but they can offer advice on what is needed to qualify, etc.

I mean the list is short of what the signee can't do - and it is mainly organized activities with coaches. And that is largely set by NCAA regarding new players, generally - not the very strict rules during the recruiting season.
