Alex Smith WAS awful to start his career. The year Harbaugh took over he posted career highs in yards, touchdowns, and completion %. His QBR has gone up nearly a full 10 points since his first season under Harbaugh and he is now a competent NFL starter. You telling me he didn't learn anything from Jim?
Kaepernick was his first QB drafted into the NFL and while I agree he's not elite, he doesn't suck nearly as much as you think either and the two nearly won a Super Bowl together. I'm not sure many other coaches would have the same success with Kaepernick.
Jim himself was a 1st round draft pick and NFL starter. He understands the position very very well and prepares his players for succesful pro careers. He's done well at San Diego and stanford, and I see no reason why he won't continue that at Michigan.
Yes, he's a dick. So are Saban, Meyer, stoops and a lot of other high level coaches. We're lucky Miles doesn't come off that way and seems like a genuinely goid guy.
