We just got the number 1 recruit and it’s likely he never steps foot on campus. Hope he does just not likely. Neither will half of our current class right now.

How do you plan for that?
Do lower ranked kids take that into consideration?

You have honest conversations with the kids and push them to tell you their true intentions - and have backup plans.

Let's say you sign the top 5 HS players in the country and all but 1 go pro. It was worth it for that 1.

This has cost LSU big over the last decade, plus IMO. Kids using a good program to leverage a good signing bonus. Great for the kids, but has really bit LSU, leaving them guessing how to fill those holes in the roster. It’s like you have to recruit talent that will actually show up, and not the best….. that’s crazy, but where we are…..

As mentioned above, you hope that what the kids tell you is consistent and honest when the time comes. Sometimes it’s not unfortunately and you’ll see kids take a good bit less than what they communicate to the coaches during the process.

Jay recruits as if anyone projected to go in top 10 rounds won’t make it.

It's always been like that, Turtle Thomas would get incredible talent signed for Skip only to have the Majors take almost all of it.

Yea I agree. There is no way you don’t offer the kid and accept the commitments. Still good for the program if they don’t come for the recognition. But really need them to stick to a number and tell you if they plan to go or not.

So far it seems like Jay is pretty good at this. Plus filing holes with the portal.

Just so wild.

I mean that’s easy to plan for. You just don’t account for him. The actual fringe players are much tougher to gauge and plan around.

Just Think if the physicality of football wasn’t what it was, IT would be totally different today, almost not worth watching if they left high school to the pros.

A lot of that can change. What happens if the kid gets hurt. Maybe he has a down season and slides a little. Maybe some other guys jump ahead of him?

You never really know but get some NIL money together for entice him for sure

We've gotten a lot of highly ranked prospects before because they got injured their last season of HS.

Keep in mind, our 2022 class had a ton of very highly ranked prospects that made it to campus.

High School Prospects ranked #19, #23, #29, #33, #47, #65 - all ended up at LSU.

Correct. Exactly a year ago Shores, Noot, and Neal were all locks to go pro.

That's the ranking range you hope to bring in. Getting top 10 guys to come in is very rare. But with NIL now, if you have a big player in NIL and lets say can match what a MLB team might offer, then there's a chance.

They need to change the rules and make it like football that your not draft eligible until your junior year.

The “they” you speak of have zero incentive to do that.

NIL has/will change that. People can get paid and enjoy college. Come to campus for 3 years, make money, still get drafted high and enjoy life.

It almost like LSU will need to accept commitments over the allotted amount just to make even, knowing that you will loose some to the pros.
