The colossal and assinine ignorance of some on this board is astounding! No one has any idea what the family situation is.

if they're running as much as reported in this offseason conditioning, I can't imagine elbert being around much longer......or it gets his fat arse in decent shape and he can contribute something. Win win

Let's just wish him well. Whatever his situation he wants his shot now. He was one of the only bright spots last season. I also think he should stay but it's a rebuilding year with a new coach. He just may have had enough and is ready to move on. Best of luck to you Antonio and I hope you get your shot.

Blakeney's mom is broke as shite.

Even if he goes to Europe, he still makes decent money for his family:

And going to Europe is probably what is going to happen IMO. I'm sure they have been broke their whole lives, one more year to have a shot at millions? I know playing ball in Europe is nothing to turn your nose up at, its a very good living. But this guy has the talent to be in the NBA, he has not been properly coached up. He is making a mistake.

Blakeney should have went to Wade and said: Make me a point guard.

With his size, Blakeney needs to be a better ball-handler and passer.

That's his path to the NBA. Sure, he can develop those skills as a pro, but college coaches are more patient.

Maybe im in the minority, i just dont think this will effect LSU that much. Sampson is the same type of player. Mays is a pretty good PG with a year under his belt. We dont know what we have in Hayward, and Jenkins has potential. Thats not even counting Alexander and Rachal Coming in. With a lineup of
G Sampson
G Mays
SF/G Sims or Jenkins
F Kiir
C Reath

I'm excited to see what this team can do.

You could be right, but that's assuming the players improve as they should.

It's never good to lose your best player, but LSU could still improve if the players step up.

Blakeney was the best athlete on the team though.

The other guys don't have his quickness or hops, and I think he has the best looking shot of the group as well. He just needs some damn coaching.

I'm sure the NBAE and D-League coaches will be solid though and I can't blame him if he needs the money for family issues. I can definitely see him being a contributor on an NBA roster if he polishes his game up. I think scouts will like him more when they work him out privately because of his raw athleticism.

ETA:

Not dogging Sampson or Mays. Those guys have potential for sure.

I'm excited to see effective schemes on both sides of the floor, a disciplined team, and a team that will out hustle every opponent.

We may not have the best talent depth next year, but I don't think Wade will ever let LSU be an "easy win" for anyone.

Thank goodness there are LSU fans who can offset the ignorant, racist, prejudiced "fans" who post based on their assumptions and negative views of others, with no facts to support their negative posts. And this is a too common occurrence.

Wade is going hard for grad transfers so don't be surprised if we add one this offseason. That will go a long way in replacibg Blakeney too

Dude,

LPN's make about $12 an hour. That's jack shite when trying to raise kids.

And no one has any business judging this woman or the son that's trying to take some burden off his mom.

Anyone that wouldn't do this for their mom is a POS

Well, my post was based off the fact he was a 5 star coming out of high school and still has that athletic ability. His head coach so far at LSU was was fired for not coaching up the talent he had. The new coach we have coming in and the assistant coaches he is bringing to LSU all look extremely positive in the coaching up players arena. and finally players that get drafted in the first round of the NBA are going to make a lot more money then players that do not get drafted in the first round. Right now Blakeney is not an NBA caliber player based on production. Some D league or Playing in Europe is probably where he will be in the near future. IT IS MY OPINION that he and his family would be better off at LSU trying a year under Wade. and opinions are what this site is about no?

You do understand that he gets much more practice and work in going to Europe versus staying here, right? He won't get drafted, but he'll be able to sign as a free agent, which could pay him more than getting picked in the late first.

I just think blakeney is a lot better than we have seen. If he had and all sec type season next year and led lsu to the tourney he would be in a much stronger position entering the nba than going abroad or d league.

All I was trying to say is that there are much worse situations than a single mom with a career... what if it was a single mom with no career?

I realize I don't know the full situation, never said I did. Just seems to me that if they've made it this far, sticking out one more year for a better shot at the pros would benefit the family more.

If this is true then I stand corrected. Had no idea European basketball was a viable career option. I'll stick to football lol
