This kid is in the 2012 class but is already 17.

Will this indiscression be overlooked because he is 17 years old?

quote:

Derek David, a highly touted linebacker recruit from Rockdale, Texas, has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in his aunt’s house.

it never ends.

some of them really amaze me.

the PREMIER point guard at McNeese, who led the league in scoring and led the USA in free throw shooting
kited checks.
his sentence amounted to two years in the army in the early years of Nam. never heard of him again.

I'm not going to judge him based on that article for 2 reasons.1 they don't tell enough to know whether the accusation is true or not and 2 the 1st line of the article proves that the writer didn't do his homework.Chris Carter was the one charged with feeling up the girls in ROTC the night before signing day and was cleared of all charges. He has since signed his LOI to OSU.So unless the writer is saying that he expects David to be exonerated(which clearly with the last line of the article he does not)I have a hard time taking the word of a sensationalistic, non factual writer.

The other major thought about this is that David is almost consensusly thought to be the clear best LB in Texas.Has huge grade issues but without that he could pick his college. If he plays and somehow gets out of the charges he could contend for top 2-3 recruits in the state of Texas.

It's right here as well: LINK That writer was just trying to add some humor to it.

The thing that's going to kill David is this:

quote:

"We interviewed Mr. David, he admitted he had sex with the young lady," Rockdale police Chief Thomas Harris said. Police also said he didn't stop having sex with girl despite her pleas.

The article doesn't say that the Police talked to the girl, so did David basically admit to raping her?

From that quote it would appear that he has at least admitted to having sex with her.The question will be where the last part came from.Did the girl say she told him to stop(I'm guessing since he was charged) or are the police just saying that to give credence to the charge and influence the public opinion.I'm all for locking him up and throwing the key away if he raped her but I'm always skeptical of the stuff that the police put into the media. Many times charges are filed with very little investigating in rape cases especially when dealing with minors(a good thing to be safe rather than sorry in sexual assault cases dealing with minors but they can keep the details private unless the case is solid)Hopefully the police in this case have done their due dilligence especially with the public statements they're putting out.Sounds like a case of his word about consensual sex and her's about force.

As far as the other writer trying to put humor in the article,it's not humorous to use an innocent(at least legally innocent)kid as an analogy. If humor was his point then he missed it greatly. If it were you or someone you knew used in that analogy in this circumstance i'm guessing there wouldn't be a lot of humor seen in it.

Not meant to be antagonistic towards you and thanks for the 2nd link.I'm just not a fan of all the non factual, sensationalized "news" that the media these days is putting out in all areas of media from ESPN,the news channels and these dumbass writers we've been reading on this board this week(Thayer Evans etc.).Kind of a pet peeve.

I thought Carter admitted to his crime though? While it's nowhere close to rape, it was still pretty bad (To add a lil humor, the dude was feeling up ROTC girls. The ones at my high school could pass as guys ).

That article did leave a lot to be desired if he admitted to that second part of my quote. It never said if the police interviewed the girl, which I have to assume they did and where they got the last part.

I think this has a lot more legs to it compared to anything that Thayer reports. Thayer throws his reel into a fish-less pond. He has to know that Yahoo sports writer who broke the Jim Tressel deal, as well as the USC stuff, has got that side down pat. If Thayer is such an investigative person, how did he not catch the Ohio State deal at all? NO ONE should take Thayer seriously in anything he writes

I agree about the Thayer stuff was just using that as an example of some of the non factual crap that the media puts out these days. He's a hack. He's so sleazy that even though i have no doubt that Auburn had some dirty dealings in the Cam mess and some others things,I couldn't bring myself to take anything he wrote seriously. The LSU stuff just pissed me off.I have no false impression that we are squeaky clean by any means but he was leaving out some very important stuff and using very misleading headlines and focal points in the articles.

With the part about the police talking to the girl,i didn't see anything that said they did either.i'm just assuming they did with the second part of the qoute and line that you highlighted earlier.I would think that if they're putting it in the paper or on a website that she was pleaing for him to stop that the police at least talked to the girl.I would hope so at the very least.

I'm not sure to be honest if Carter admitted touching the girls or not but I'm assuming he didn't or that the police just didn't think what he did was a crime.

Your humor in this is humorous.I know exactly what you mean by the ROTC girls.I will say though that i've seen some cute ones but they are far and few between.

Derek David is border-line retarded. He's illiterate. Its a joke that any major university in the country would offer this guy a scholarship - and yet he probably had 40 offers from SEC, Big 12 and everone else. Its an embarassment to tech that he is associated with them
