Just saw this quote from Bill Embody at Scout:
quote:

Reason why #LSU DL coach Pete Jenkins doesn't talk to recruits: Since he trains NFL players, it's an NCAA violation to recruit in anyway.

Does this make sense to anybody? If he can't talk to recruits b/c of his NFL ties, then how can he work with college guys without affecting their eligibility? And why hasn't this come out until now?

Hmm. That seems less than ideal.

Well Austin Thomas gets to recruit in his place. I'll live with it.

Austin Thomas is recruiting in place for our special teams coach I'm pretty sure.

No that would be the spot Canada filled. Thomas has been recruiting since Orgeron took over. They got a waiver for him to recruit for Jenkins.

I love Pete as much as the next guy but why can't we get a DL coach that actually recruits for us.

At this moment we need all hands on deck.

What good is that gonna do when certain recruits will want to have a relationship with their position coach?

It will work out. He is only coaching 1 more year, then Carl Dunbar is back in the purple and gold.
It will work out.

Mathis came out and basically said the reason he chose Bama was because Jenkins didn't even call him. He wanted a close relationship with his position coach and Bama had that. Rule or not Orgeron/Jenkins need to get that shite figured out because they just lost the top DT in LA BC of it

They may lose Marv because of it too. Hopefully not.

I think Mathis decided he wanted to go to Bama regardless. The Jenkins comment was him partially justifying his decision when in reality he, like many high school kids, was enamored with the Bama brand. There are many times when a kid commits to a school even after the position coach is hired by another school.

Mathis comments were just his justification for signing with Bama. He was going there anyway no matter what Jenkins was just a smokescreen

Pretty sure that is Slevin, and they didn't lose him.

It gets you Jacoby Stevens and Jacob Phillips instead. Win some you lose some.

Would be ideal if Pete could be transitioned into one of these "analyst" type rolls that allows him to coach, but compliance is playing it safe there. What bama is doing with their shadow staff is technically a violation, their compliance staff is just turning a blind eye to it. Ours isn't, and Orgeron isn't allowed to hire or fire the people in charge of playing watch dog. It's going to be a huge issue this offseason, especially with the new staff member being allowed, and it's not just an LSU issue.
