the position at LSU wasn't a paid position and there wasn't a guarantee it would become one... it's better for him personally and for LSU

Be a hell of a athlete for one and show a financial need. Simple.

The entire Jones family is first class all the way. This will be a great hire for one of the finest high schools in the nation. Congratulations to the Purple Knight nation.

but a school like Aug usually goes for proven veteran head coaches

So a guy with head coaching experience that won a Coach of the Year award is not a proven veteran?

ETA: did you even read the article? Even if his overall HC experience totals 6 years, it's not like they don't know who they are getting or he hasn't been successful in everything he has done to this point. He is on the current school administration, ALL AMERICAN football player at his Alma Mater, Team Captain at Tulane, Coach of the Year in his HC experience while leading his team to multiple district championships and playoffs. Proven veteran in my book.

For some reason when I first read the op I thought he meant Al Jones, Alems real name. So when I understood it wasn't Rahem Alem, I said "that makes more sense now" "would have been unusual for a school like Aug to not hire a proven coach."
