Some players are well into puberty by 8th grade.
Dylan moses.

Some are late bloomers.

Some 16 yr old kid 5 8" 170 at begining of junior year becomes 6 2" 205, end of fall senior yr.

That's because some kids are 16 their freshman year in high school.

When the Patriots and Seahawks played the 2015 SB, not one starter on either side of the ball on either team had been rated higher than 3* out of high school. Players develop. Coaches don't care what they are right now. They care about what they can be in two or three years.

I completely agree with your point and it is WAAAAYYYYYY too early for anyone to worry about the rating of any 2018 player. Nor is their rating important in the scheme of things.

having said that -

Seattle ::
Earl Thomas - 4*
Marshawn Lynch - 4*
Byron Maxwell - 4*
Bruce Irvin - 4*
Zach Miller - 4*
Kevin Williams - 4*

Pats ::
Rob Gronkowski - 4*
LeGarrette Blount - 4*
Vince Wilfork - 4*
Donta Hightower - 4*

It's fun to get a bunch of flashy 4 and 5 star guys but the star system is very flawed. Some highly rated players have maxed out their potential in high school. Some look better than they are due to the level of competition they face. Some put up huge numbers because of the system they played in. Trey Quinn is a good example.

JJ Watt was TE/DE in high school, went to Central Michigan as a TE then walked on at Wisconsin as a DE and we know the rest of the story. The point is, regardless of his position, he was a 2 star so there are diamonds to be found out there among the lesser ranked players.
