Since there's been some discussion recently about 2021 QBs, I thought it was interesting that there were new CB picks in the last couple of days.

Caleb Williams
1 for Maryland on 2/10 (MD Staff Writer)
2 for Oklahome on 2/11 (Oklahoma Insiders)

Garrett Nussmeier
1 for LSU on 2/11 (Horns 247 Contributor)

Williams is all over the place and no one really knows where he’s leaning, including himself. Nuss seems to be consistent in what he’s telling people but seems content to let the dominos fall before he decides.

The MD Staff Writer has some wishful thinking... Caleb was never very interested in Maryland, and he's expressed that on multiple occasions, most notably when asked if Rakim Jarrett flipping to UMD had any effect on his decision, to which he brushed off easily. The UMD staff writer must have seen Caleb give a Maryland commit a shoutout on his Instagram story recently and thought there was some underlying message, when there really wasn't.

It's Oklahoma, Clemson, LSU, and Penn State. Oregon and Georgia were outliers, and now Georgia is completely out of it, per Caleb himself. Caleb is committing within the next 2 months, and will have a Top 3/Top 5 list come out fairly soon. He wants a team that can develop him as a quarterback and get him to the next level, which is what is attracting him to Oklahoma and Clemson. I'm sure he wants to make sure that LSU's QB development isn't a one-off, but if he commits so soon, he won't be able to confirm that. QBs tend to commit early though, so that's unrealistic anyway.

Nuss is either an LSU or TCU lock in my opinion. I don't really see him going to any other school besides one of the two.

If you think this is the case, you should get your brain checked. You really think we would make a coaching hire with the main reason being to land a middle-of-the-road recruit who isn't even our main target at the position? I mean think about what you're saying. At the current moment we're probably recruiting literally like 50 guys better than nuss. jesus fricking christ.

Not in the slightest. It’s a nice coincidence though

Dont believe that was the "main reason" at all. I highly doubt Linehan will be here for all 3-4 years Nussmeier would be here. I think it's an interesting connection, I dont think Coach O saw that and said "screw everyone else we could interview, we're getting Linehan to secure Nussmeier!"

2020 Season is going to be key in QB recruiting. If our offense is high powered with Brennan at the helm alot of QBS will be looking our way.

Okay, what are all the great reasons we brought Linehan on for? Not something generic like NFL experience. What does his hire bring to the table?

This. Nobody is expecting Burrow-type numbers, but continuing to spread the ball around to all the playmakers is critical for future QB recruiting.

Two words: quarterback development.

Orgeron doesn’t develop QBs like Jimbo, Cutcliffe, Mullen, Riley, Leach, etc. Ensminger doesn’t either. We need someone like that on staff, and that’s what Linehan brings.

I don't understand the attraction of Oklahoma. That Coach gets high praise for developing an offense. He has brought in three proven quarterbacks and has yet to play for the championship.

Hell we could have beaten Clemson with either Russell, Flynn, as well as Burrow.

Need the Thompson kid. Might be best arm in the class.

I've been adamant in my belief that we will get Williams. Nothing that's happened has changed that. UGA was a factor but they're out. Oregon was never gonna get him. Clemson is always a threat and impressed him but Caleb and his dad are smart, DJU just came in. PSU is a threat because they've been on him the longest and it's close. Wouldn't sleep on them but think they are very beatable. Maryland is a joke. Jarrett actually asked him a week before ESD if he was gonna go to Maryland. Simple response, he wants to win. Oklahoma is always a threat because of Riley and his success with QB production and drafting. However nothing since Vandagriff decommitted has happened that makes me think Oklahoma is anywhere near the threat the media is making them to be. Not currently. Think that's just perception and forecasting and not really based on anything substantial.
LSU on the other had extremely glowing reviews from Caleb and in particular his dad. His dad loves LSU. That has to count for something considering the closeness he has to the recruitment. I've seen nothing aside from fan panic and media blowharding with Oklahoma that suggests we've fallen out of favor. We've got the hire now and just need to get them back on campus and close the deal.

Linehans ties to Nuss is favorable but just coincidental. E is choosing the QB in this class with input from the analysts and Linehan. Make no mistake though, Linehan nor the analysts are here to pick the qb. They're here to sell the qb on concepts and the plan. If we wanted Nuss we could have him already. Apparently someone isn't sold on him as the best choice currently. Only constant is E.

We also need Brennan to learn, grow and do well in order for other QB recruits to continue to look at Lsu on a yearly basis
