I agree but that's one of the points in my post above. Things are changing - for better or worse - competition for the top tier athletes will dictate that recruiting techniques adapt or you lose. You will see other offers for this young man soon and in a very short span of time these early offers will no longer be considered "news". I'm not saying the trend is healthy, I'm just saying it's the current reality. We all demand our coaches win and this requires the talent to get it done. To get that talent in today's world requires things unheard of a few years ago and my money is that barring a change in the rules, it will accelerate & become the norm rather than the opposite.

Oh, I wasn't criticizing your view at all. On the contrary, I like that we're ahead of the curve on this.

Sure, I know that. Just pointing out that I agree that all the notoriety, publicity & social networking are not particularly helpful or for that matter, healthy. That said, it is what it is & it has to be dealt with. I say kudos to our staff for recognizing what the future holds and being in front. It can't last but it bodes well for the next few years.
As an aside for others having doubts about the early commits, this particular young man is a LSU fan through & through. Might want to catch the radio interview coming up Tuesday with his uncle, Ty Detmer.

I might be excited about this if he's still committed on Signing Day 2018. If I'm still alive.

I could not disagree more & IMHO, history will prove that not only is it an extremely brilliant, insightful move on the part of the coaching staff, it will be the wave of the future. Recruiting is evolving at a rapid pace becoming a 24/7/365 proposition going further & further into the future. It is the natural result of the current recruiting atmosphere resulting from the social media & exposure marketing trends. If you are not ahead of the recruiting curve in today's world rest assured, you are already behind it.
I brought this exact thing up in another thread. Recruiting is expanding very fast and with things like Nike, UA, ESPN doing regional combines and then national combines, it's going to get a lot of younger kids exposure very fast. Sites dedicated to youth football is expanding as well as training facilities. Social media and things like hudl, get your tape out faster and to more eyeballs.
In 10 years, this will become the norm. In twenty years, you will be considered a late bloomer if you're not on the radar by your sophomore year.

I don't think it's a stupid move at all. There's really no downside. Only potential and upside. Just like Dale Brown identifying Shaq's genetics (by meeting the father) and seeing him in person (in Germany the first time?) Cam saw a 6'3" with a cannon (for his age). So why the hell not. Kid is an LSU fan.

I can't wait to hear Les & Cam talk about Z-Dink.

What about kids buried on a team because of an a-hole coach with no other out?

Obviously whomever said General Zad wins the nickname war. Easily going to be the best one.

Also so happy we went right into the heart of A&M territory and took a future 6* with a Heisman lineage right from them.
They cannot compete with us when we go all out on a prospect we want in Texas.

Is this the first 6* heisman trophy candidate that's never played a down in varsity football in history?

Prom what is the problem? The kid doesn't have to grow another inch to be a college qb. He gets elite qb coaching on his families dime. Cam likes him.

We all know the game here. I'm not saying the kid isn't going to be any good. I'm just talking about the excitement about landing a kid that hasn't even played high school ball. It's reaching. I don't know why people get upset over me being NOT excited. I'm not trying to beat it into anyone's head. I said I wasn't excited. People blast me for it. I explain why....and now I was going on and on about it?
But this is pretty much my stance on it at this point.
quote:
“We all think it’s a little crazy but we’re excited for him,” Detmer told the newspaper the Baton Rouge Advocate. :”He bought all kinds of LSU gear and wore it around all week. He’s put together pretty good. Very athletic. Runs track. Does real well in everything he does. He’s kind of a natural athlete. Shows up well at some of these camps and combines. He places near the top. People see him throw and think he’s a high school kid. There’s a lot that can happen in four years – coaching changes and who knows what can happen. At this point, with the way the program is, obviously it’s one of the top programs. He’d love to go there.”
Good for the kid. I'm sure he's excited about it. But in the end, when his recruitment heats up and he's getting attention from alot of other schools from around the country, things are going to change.
To me, all this is is a young kid falling in love with the first good looking girl that ever talked to him. Jumping the gun until he realizes there's ALOT more good looking women in the world.

I'm not all worked up either. I am glad to hear we are getting in front of kids now instead of waiting to pounce.
We have lost a lot of kids recently that say we didn't show the love early and often enough.
I wish basketball would have won

Offering to an 8th grade kid is a bit of a stretch. Hell, they should see the spiral my 7 year old can throw while they are at it.
