Bought a new house a few months ago and the grass is zoysia. Never had a lawn with zoysia before

Should I be doing anything to it right now? weeds, etc..It appears its in great shape.

And as far as maintenance, obviously cut it when it needs it. Does it need watering more or less often? Been doing some research and it appears you want to bag the clippings instead of just leaving them out. Anything else as far as weekly maintenance?

Fertilize it the same as other grass. You will find weeds are fewer and it needs less water.

Fertilize it more like centipede. Not a lot of N per year. Weed control is more in line with bermuda. You can use a wider range of products. It does develop a a thatch layer so every couple of years you'll need to dethatch it.

Pardon my ignorance but how do you “dethatch” and when is the best time to do that

You can rent a dethatching mower. Spring is the best time to do it. Depending on how thick the thatch layer is you might need to do it every other year or it could be every 5 years.

My front yard and a lot of my back yard is zoysia.

I've never dethatched in 13 years. I was thinking about burning the front yard this year which would do the same thing.

Weeds will grow in it but not as easily as they do in bermuda. I put out pre-emergent in the spring and fall. Rarely spray post emergent weed control.

ETA: I'm in a burb of Memphis so take with a grain of salt. We can't grow centipede or St Augustine here.
Reason I say that is the cold/dormancy may help with thatch some. Don't know.
