Everywhere my st augustine grass has died during the drought, vbw has started to fill in. Should I do something now or wait till spring?

What can/should be done now? The Celsius Xtra did not kill the VBW or Lespedeza(or maybe Spurge, can't tell difference for sure) after 2 applications.

I have a similar issue with what I believe to be Dallisgrass. I think I'm going to have to invest in some herbicides and pray.

How much area? You can always spray with roundup, rake out dead grass and put down new sod

You adding surfactant to the solution? Mixing the correct concentration? It’s also a systemic herbicide - it can take 2 to 4 weeks to show results.

MSM Turf is also effective against those weeds.

VBW and Lespedeza are mature this time of year, and mature weeds are much more difficult to control, and often will require multiple sprays to kill.

If you map the locations of VBW in your lawn now, and treat it when it first emerges next April/May - you’ll need to look for it - and it will re-appear, you will have much more success in keeping it in check. Once you see white flowers on VBW you are dealing with a mature weed.

Patience and persistence.

I hit mine with Celsius last week and I'm gonna follow it up with MSM in a couple. When will science get off their butts and make grass that can thrive in any condition like these dang weeds.

Yes on the surfactant, I think so on the concentration. It's a bit difficult with my yard but pretty sure I was good on it. I even put blue die in, so I could see the coverage.

The VBW never got the flowers and turned light light green, but has not died. It just stunted it. The lespedeza was not fazed at all. Like it was never touched.

Anything that can be used that's somewhat environmentally friendly and safe for pets?

I believe ronk has stated in other threads that in some areas lespedeza has shown some herbicide resistance so you can mix both Celsius and MSM Turf to help control it - he states this in his post above.

Think about ground cover if there's a lot of shade.

I tried MSM and 24D. The 24D had better results. I was able to kill all mature buttonweed after 2 applications of 24D.

Not sure about St. Augustine but I had an invasion of VBW this spring in my Bermuda. Sprayed the entire yard with 2-4-D. It is gone.

I’ve killed mine with Vinegar sprayed on. I’ve battled it for years. I try to pull it by the roots very carefully. It’s tough to get rid of. I have some MSM I”ll try soon as a test. Good luck!
