I talked to a couple tree guys but they're not really interested in the bamboo planting - seems that is more of a landscaping thing?

Anyway, any recommendations on a company / crew to do both? TIA!

I'm assuming you understand clumping vs. spreading bamboo.

Yes, lol. Been a long time looking at it and have finally found what I'm looking for...

I've got about 400 linear feet of backyard fencing we are going to line with clumping bamboo. It's a pretty good sized backyard and we're gonna make it real private.

Bamboo is severely underrated. Not only is it very private but it blocks sound really well. The big bamboo suppliers in Louisiana all offer planting services. You might just have to have two companies do it.

I'd plant clumping bamboo in two rows offset from each other.

.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'

This pattern makes for a solid fence after a couple of years.

What bamboo are you going with?

In Mandeville and thinking along the same lines with the bamboo. I think there's a company called the Bamboo nursery in Franklinton, but I haven't been there yet.

Looking to do the same thing with Bamboo on the NS. What varietal did you decide to use? Following along for suggestions on that as well as someone who can plant it as well. Thanks!

Careful with that bamboo. Sounds like you studied up, but I had a bad experience at my old house. Planted clumping , it still took off across the yard. Wasn’t so bad in mine, but my nabor behind me was old and didn’t cut regularly. Last time I looked it had grown up to his back porch. Morale of the story, even clumped spreads. A lot.

Looking like Golden Goddess. Yes, there's a nursery in Franklinton that I talked to about it. 985-789-2584, Allen is his name.

Clumping bamboo, about 12' tall, which gives me 6' above my fence. Going to plant a 3 gallon bucket every 5 feet or so and it should have developed enough by year 2 to be above the fence and year 3 be full height he said.

Can they be dropped or do they need to be topped?

Topped I’m sure.

But I know nothing about felling trees.

Pines in backyard around a home for $400 each. Does that sound good?

I have about a dozen clumped bamboo plants and they haven’t spread at all. They’re giant and provide some great privacy and I love the look of them. I don’t know what variety they are. They were given to me as a housewarming gift.

Meauxjeaux - did they end up planting it for you too? Can you give me a ballpark cost on what they charge for the plants plus labor?

I'm trying to block off line of sight to our home from people using the trace, and probably need a good bit. Just wondering what kind of cost to look for. Thanks!

We planted clumping bamboo ourselves. We bought 5 gallon pots and split them, planted about 5' apart and 2' off the fence. Too close to the fence and they are approx 25' tall. Requires cutting a few times a year to keep it from encroaching on our yard. Sounds like you have much more space to let them go than I do.

Ended up getting 12 taken down... they were pretty good sized.

Yard is tore up, so grading it next, then doing the bamboo. Project is developing slowly.
