I have a tiny yard at my rental duplex so tried a reel mower. It sucked.

Those strings hanging from your shorts just couldn’t push it.

I do have ostrich legs, skinny but strong. But reel mowers don't work unless you have a perfect yard and mow it every 3 or 4 days. With my weed wacker I can cut that place in 10 minutes.

Have owned two reel mowers. Like someone said, any trash in the yard, like twigs, will mess up the mower.

Got rid of the first one for a traditional push.

Bought another for my next house since the total grass area is about 300 sq ft. Has been great. Love the cut if gives. Just doesn't mulch long grass so it needs to be cut every 5 days or so to not make a bigger mess.

My rental is about the size of your yard, but I only mow it once every 3 weeks until July then every month.

Reel mowers is all I had to use as a kid. My dad would cut the grass but he died when I was only 8, so the job fell on me and that was a real workout for a young, skinny kid with a good size yard. That mower did cut good, but like already mentioned, twigs or any other tough debris stops them on a dime.

I could probably get by with one with my current size yard considering 90% of the back yard is vegetable garden now with only long, narrow swaths of grass to cut and not much more for a front lawn.

Maybe after the power walk behind gives up the ghost, but then again, I'm now 68, so a reel mower is not likely in my future.

For what you are talking about, Scotts 2000 should work well. I love mine.

You guys have scared me away. Got a live oak that drops way too much in the yard to give the reel mower a try

I tried out a reel mower for a full season. The cut is far superior to a rotary. I loved the look, but it wasn't worth it for me. Reel mowers are much narrower, so it takes longer to cut a yard. and as others have mentioned, you better not have any trees at all in your cutting area. The mower will get hung up, even on the tiniest twig. Also, I noticed it misses grass blades fairly often. My OCD will not allow missed spots, so I tended to take way too long to cut my quarter-acre as I went over the missed spots

But if you just have a small volleyball court away from any trees, the reel mower will be perfect for that
