Regular Live Oak, or Cathedral? Cathedrals have not performed good in low temperatures.

You good. They supposed to be planted and go dormant so they develop root balls over the winter . I did the same thing in last few weeks but my souls now is compacted and tight around the roots with the rain. Make sure you water good before the freeze. And since you JUST planted them I’d give them alot of leaf mulch if you think the soil is still pretty aerated.

I’d be curious to what azaleas you planted and what the advice is on those though.

Being just newly planted.... don't take a chance, cover the roots and the plant.

I lost 3 fruit trees that were about a year old this past February when it got down to 16F. I covered the trees, but did not do anything to protect the roots, except I did have 2 layers of the sheets on the ground.
