HVAC Parts Mob

The blower motor in one of my ACs went out last night so I pulled it out and started calling local suppliers to get a replacement. None of them will sell a $100-150 part to me because I’m not in their mob.
I get why they can’t sell certain things (refrigerant mostly) but I fail to see how there would be any liability for them for simply taking my money and giving me the motor. Instead I have to get the only quick ship part available on Amazon and wait 2 more days to fix it.

dont forget to buy a new run capacitor for it as well. most new motors will use a different size than the original motor had, but even if it doesnt, you still want a new one to install with the new motor.
when removing the motor, take the blower housing out of the heater, then bring it to your garage to work on the blower housing.
to remove it, sand the shaft until its shiny, then oil it with wd40 before trying to slide it off. use crescent wrench on the shaft to turn it back and forth as you pull the motor out of the blower wheel. sometimes you might need a 12" long allen wrench to remove the set screws in the hub, but some have square heads on the set screws.
then just clean the blower wheel with a stiff brush and use soapy water if you need to, then let it dry.
finish mounting the fan motor in the housing and center the wheel in the housing, before retightening the hub onto the shaft.

Because they protect the trade. In return, mechanical contractors buy from them, $ 50,000 for a busy little guy, over 1 million for the bigger guys- per year.
This is why Coburns STAYS small, like Ideal Appliance. Even Solar Supply will run u azz out of there.

Any contractor that cares about retailers selling to the general public is an idiot. I would bet 30% of diy jobs end up doing something wrong and still need to call.
Plus, places that cell to the public are a great place to ask for a reference. For anyone that does quality work there’s no issue here.

I just had a condenser fan motor and a new capacitor shipped to my door, $135. Would cost $400+ to have an HVAC tech do a job that takes maybe 30 minutes with basic hand tools.

that happened to me a few yrs ago. 'cept my fan motor was $400 sold direct or $800 from the tech. the guy at the counter said "yeah they just take the price and double it"
plug and play repair.
