Generac Whole home generator on natural gas. Should I run it bi-weekly or weekly. It runs automatically.

We have been running ours every two weeks and haven’t had any problems.
My neighbor runs his weekly.

We just went with what the company that serviced it recommended.

I think weekly is the norm and schedule it when you are typically home. When this is done on some generators only the engine is exercised. Once or twice a year cut the power to your home so the generator side will kick in.

Our Kohler is set up to run 20 minutes every Saturday morning. That's what the installer recommended.

Mine automatically runs the motor for like 10-20 minutes every Wednesday at 2pm. I get it serviced every six months and as part of that servicing, they shut power off to the house and test the transfer.

Mine runs automatically every week for 15 minutes. I had them put a service disconnect in when it was installed, so every few months when I'm home and think about it, I'll flip that and let the ATS cycle and the whole unit run under load for 30ish minutes.

with natural gas, make sure when you test it you put load on it. Dont just fire it up and let it idle every time.
