I have a three-year-old Predator 3500 generator that I start up for 30 minutes each month to make sure it is in good running order.

When I started it today, it initially cranked and ran for a few seconds and went dead. I pulled the plug cleaned and replaced and it did the same (ran a few seconds and went dead), this cyles continues and it will often backfire when starting.

Oil and fuel are good and the spark arrestor has been deleted. Any thoughts, other than tear apart the carb?

How old is the fuel and does it have anything like Sta-bil in it?

If the carb bowl has a solenoid on the bottom, remove and clean it.

Fuel is new and non-ethanol.

Sounds like fuel delivery. If gas is good, make srure the choke is not closing. Don't trust what the choke control looks like. Can you get to where you can see the choke flap itself to ensure it is not closing. That would let it start then die becasue of not enough air.

I just had a friend have the same exact issue with his 9500 predator inverter. After he tried several troubleshooting steps with air, fuel, and spark, it ended up being the low oil shutoff switch. It must be a common problem on these things. The oil was completely full. He unplugged it, and it ended up starting and running just fine.

As others have said, sounds like the low oil sensor. Top off the oil and try that.
