Bought house 2017, took out in ground pool from the 70’s. Filled hole with river sand, graded entire yard and laid sod. Sod died right where pool was, but lived everywhere else.

2018 LSU soil test showed results not significantly different from area outside of pool.

Grass replaced there on a couple occasions and has died off. Only weeds grow there.

Any idea what is causing this?

Just a hunch but water runs right through sand thus the sod never gets enough water.

Type of grass?
Pics?
Is it where the entire pool was?

Lack of nutrients from several feet of river silt?
Silt too compacted after dirt work?

Could there be an Indian burial ground under that spot?

this is the answer ^^^^^

what you did by filling with sand instead of dirt, was you created a giant french drain that sucks water away from the shallow roots of the grass

all i can suggest is, dig up about 2-3ft of that sand, and replace it with regular dirt
