I am looking for rec's for a gas pole-saw. I need one with a long or extendable pole to be used for trimming trails at the hunting camp. I have a small Stihl one (Kombi) that I use around the home (it works fine for small projects), but I am looking for something a bit more "heavy-duty" than my residential/home- grade saw.

just bring a 8ft step ladder, if thats not enough then put it in the back of your truck and you can safely reach anything 12ft off the ground or less

I have the Stihl HT133. It’s been great but it’s expensive and it’s heavy.

I’ve used it a lot though.

I'd consider a battery pole saw not running as long as a gas one a plus.

How big of branches are you cutting?

Have you considered a hand saw? There’s some bad arse hand saws that can get way up there and you can cut 2-3” branches in 1-3 swipes. You can get them extremely long to reach a lot higher then a powered saw since they are much lighter.

ETA: I can’t find the name, but my buddy has one that’s 21’ and Japanese blade that’s sharp as hell.

I have a Stihl HT101 pole saw, it’s an absolute tank! Probably 10-12yrs old, but make SURE you wear the harness when using…

i have it as well as the old 131 (which the 133 replaced) and its much lighter. i read a bunch of reviews about how stihl went cheap in order to go lighter, but i havent noticed a drop off in quality yet and ive had the 133 for 4 years now.

Stihl has the most power so if youve got alot of hardwoods like live oaks, id recommend it. when you telescope that pole out to 13 ft though, you better be cutting at 45 deg angle or less, or your back will not forive you

You are talking about Silky, many arborists will carry a small Silky on their belt or strapped to their leg.

They make great saws and some people use the Dozuki to cut dovetails. The one thing their pole saws aren't is cheap.

I forgot the model, but my shindawia has been nothing but good to me for well over 12+ years. Use probably 20-30 days out of the year.

Silky pole saw is incredible. It’s manual it works great especially for heights beyond what gas powered can reach. Think I can get about 35 feet up with one.
