My pool small 10,000 gallon inground pool is getting up in years (20) I think and the plaster is holding up ok but looks shitty as it has some stains.

Last year we got black algae and I stupidly took the advice of a pool guy to rub it with a chlorine tab, which stained the plaster with white spots.

I called a few places today just to get an idea and one quoted $18K which seems ridiculous.

Anyone got this done recently and how much was it?

I finished my my pool build last year in Baton Rouge. Roughly 35’x25’ rectangle with a 10’x10’ fish spa in one corner.

The guy took my pool from a bare shell, did a ton of prep, added steps to my spa, built up spa walls and skimmers to set the level of the spa and skimmers, installed tile and coping, did a basecoat before plaster, then sprayed and finished Quartzscapes plaster. All in, that was $20k.

He broke out the price as follows:

Yea. I think so.

Not sure who you’re calling, but I wouldn’t call builders like Russel, Ewing, G W Oliver, or Lucas Firmin. I would call plaster guys directly, if you can get them.

What kind of plaster do you have? Quartz? Pebble?

It's an older pool. Pretty sure it's just regular old plaster not quartz

have you tried using powder Vitamin C (absorbic acid) ?

If not, give it a try. I have had great results at removing organic stains in my plaster with it. makes the drain and return jet eyeballs bright white as well.

worth a shot before a full replaster

Do you use a pipe or something iterate the spots?

Get some Vitamin C tablets, crush them up coarsely, and put them in some panty hose or sock. Then rub them against the stain

Redoing ours now. Basically using same hole in the ground but everything else will be new. New plumbing, electrical, pump, and filter. As well as new decking for entire backyard. Was much much more than $20

Ummm. Yea. That’s gonna run just a tad more than $20k. I’d reckon three to five multiples of $20k.

depending on the size of the stain/spots you could spot treat with some Viatamin C in a panty hose or sock and letting it sit there. I just sprinkle in about 2 cups around the perimeter and let it circulate. its like magic. seriously.

Most contracts won't even do plain plaster anymore, but if they do it should be cheap.

You arent getting them. They would almost never piss off the pool contractors by going direct, that is their life blood. If they are worth a shite, they are booked for jobs every day already. If they suck, I dont want em on a refinish job. You will not know they did a terrible job until they are long gone.
