Hello HG Board. I am a long time Honda push mower owner. Looking for a new machine for next year. I cut around 1/2 acre weekly. I fertilize and water heavily so I have very thick grass. Open to suggestions on brand, size, etc

Appreciate any feedback on brands you own or have used.

Thanks

My Honda still runs like a top. When it eventually stops and nothing else other than the engine is a problem then I am going to drop a commercial-grade engine on the deck and keep running it. There is nothing on the residential side of walk-behind mowers I would consider with Honda out of the market. Commercial-grade models are $1000+ new but if you are going to pony up $700+ for a halfway acceptable battery-powered or gas unit then might as well spend a bit more and get something that will really hold up for the long run.

21" Greenworks 60V is all you need. You don't need self propelled with electric - no heavy engine - steel deck

No way I’d recommend a battery mower for half an acre. Guy across the street has a quarter an acre and his battery powered mower seems to struggle the entire time. It takes him minimum two battery charges.

Is the lot 1/2 acre or the area you cut 1/2 acre?

I have a 1/2 acre lot and cut with an EGO electric. With my AirPods noise cancelling i can’t really hear the mower. I like it. I can do the yard on one charge, but if it was actually 1/2 acre to cut it wouldn’t make it. If the grass was really thick it might not make it. It does power through thick grass though, but eats up battery.

I've had 2 Toros with Honda engines. I'd probably still have the first one but a leak in my shed at my old house caused the body to rust.

I bought a new one when we moved here 11 years ago. It still starts on the first or second pull after sitting up all winter. All I've ever done to it is change the spark plug every few years and the air filter.

Our yard is somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3 acre.
