Why was the thread about the Hattiesburg murders anchored?

What is the point of an anchor anyway? Why not just delete a thread if the mods don't want it?

Or even better... why not just delete the offensive posts in question? The thread is almost 20 pages long, is national news, and is relevant to a large number of posters.

It was an act of cowardice. Nice way to spit in the faces of those two fallen officers. If someone gets stupid with a comment, you delete the comment.

I think the anchor may have been a quick solution to a complex problem. Why not just start whatever discussion you wanted to have in a new thread?

Anchoring a thread is akin to spitting in the faces of the fallen officers? Geez.

there was a picture today on Facebook of a cop friend on mine with her knee in the back of a ten year old autistic girl holding her down. I almost posted it, and then thought the OT had it's share of cop threads for the day.
I didn't want to pile on her, but never is that okay to put a knee into a kid's spine.
The pic is making it's rounds, probably be a thread soon.
