I’m starting out the year at 218 at 5’11”. My goal is to get to about 200. Based off a few online calculators, if I maintain a 2000 calorie diet, I will start to lose weight. It would take about 3 months of this. I take about a 1.5 mile walk around neighborhood 4-5 times a week with the dogs and walk a good bit around my plant.

How unhealthy is it for me to go about 1200-1500 calories per day? I don’t want to ruin my metabolism but I also want to get myself in better shape and shed some unwanted weight. I’m also cutting out alcohol except for two social events I have this month

Calories in vs calories out.

I am drying out after 16 straight days of drinking.

Weighed myself yesterday. 202.4. I have until then end of April to hit 180.

so lets say you go down to 1500 cals to start off with right away...where do you go when you stall?? 1200?? ok what about the next stall?

key is to keep calories as high as possible while maintaining a rate of loss around 1-2lbs per week.

you also want to keep protein at around 1g per lbs of bodyweight and you need to start lifting weights.

sorry but just walking is not enough. its enough to lose weight but you arent really going to look better naked or overall long term. and 5'11 200lbs is still fat AF especailly if you arent lifting.

You are just basing your decisions on calculations..
You need to start implementing this and then make decisions.
You gonna hate life at 1500 cal a day. It's got to be a balance.
When you have a decent amount of weight to lose its not a sprint. That's never sustainable. You will hit some weeks where you Dont lose anything then the next week 5lbs might go. Takes some time and effort but you need to learn how your body responds.
It takes me 6 months to lose 25lbs.I do things in small progressive steps.

yet ill be downvoted for saying 200lbs is still fat, especially if you are not lifting

ill be downvoted for saying you should lift weights progressively both for health and looks.

instead we will have people that will get up voted for worrying about things like seed oils, zero calorie drinks and posting interviews with complete hacks instead of worrying about calories and protein first and foremost.

I did this last year. Went from 227 to 198 in 6 months with mainly cutting out most sugar, not all, and much of my carbs. No fancy diet. Injured myself over the summer, got less active, and ballooned back to 218. Trying to reteach myself how to run after loss of coordination in one leg.

Focus on diet, but you can do it without killing your quality of life. I still ate chocolates, and cookies. Exercised when I could. Now, I start over with the same goal as you.

I go with a no bread diet for 6 months. Cuts out all sandwiches, most fast food, and pizza. I still eat carbs with rice and what not, but it really cuts down on the crap you put in your body.
