saw this on the Rowing subreddit. "A reasonably fit adult male should be able to row 2000 meters in 2:15 at moderate intensity."

Granted my technique could use a lot of work and I'm only 5-10. But I'm pretty sure I'm at least reasonably fit and a 2:15 2000 meters feels more than moderate to me.

disagree. waht those people consider fit is being weak and having tons of endurance. its like poeple who say any reasonable fit person should be able to run a sub 7 min mile. its stupid

would be like me saying any reasonably fit person should be able to bench 225, squat 315....its dumb and not in touch with reality.

I don't have an answer to 2,000 meters in 2:15 question because I haven't done much rowing, but that leads me to my question which is what is a moderate/decent calorie burning row time & distance. I'm basically a beginner rower. Most times I do cardio it's usually incline walking on treadmill at 12-15incl at 3mph for 15-30min

I've been doing it for a while but I still consider myself pretty much a beginner. There are a lot of youtube tutorials out there. I usually go 2-5000 meteres at a pretty hard pace. I probably should mix in some longer distances but I get bored easily. Rowing requires you to pay attention to your pace and technique, so it's hard to just zone out to music or a podcast.

Are we talking actually rowing in water? I can tell for 100% certain that no one is rowing 2000m on a concept 2 row erg in 2:15.

I meant 2000 meters at a 2:15 500 meter pace. Sorry for being unclear.

Ok that's definitely more realistic. I'd say that statement is fine.

My 2k row is 7:04 and it absolutely sucked. I honestly think 95% of the population would have trouble holding on to a 2:15 pace for a 2k which is laughable.

I would say if you are 20-40 male and go to the gym to lift or do cardio three to four times a week, 75% of those guys could hold a 2:15 pace for a 2k.

I assume you mean 2:15 500m pace?

And I think that's fair.

I've rowed a 5k at a 1:45 pace, but I'm also 6'2" and a good rower.

My 70 year old Dad rows a 5k every morning and he tries to hold a 2:30 pace, so I feel like a 2:15 pace for 2k should be doable for a "reasonably fit adult".

I can do a 1:50 pace for thirty minutes. Do I pass?

Not that I care, because I’m done with that kind of cardio until I get strong.

Wait, is 1:50 pace for thirty minutes really good? If so, my machine must have been giving me a bad reading.

1:54 on 5k for me right now, but that's some years of rowing.

At 2:40 i can get to about 20-25k. Want to gun for a marathon this year.

Ugh. I did a half one time and it was miserable. My butt kept falling asleep.

5k is about my limit on rowing. Longer than that and I just get bored.

I guess its because I can't daydream like when I run or ride a bike, but I just find long rows so tedious.

I bought a seat cushion. Made a big difference but it messed up my stroke until I raised the footrests all the way up.

Same.

Seat cushion is the answer

That would put you in the top 50 in the world this year. Congrats.

Definitely based on age. That sounds appropriate for anyone under 40 but beyond that those standards are pretty high

Right 500 meters in 1:50-2:00 is considered the average pace for a somewhat fit person

I badly need some coaching on technique. I'm fairly fit and that would be an all out effort for me. I watch the videos and read about technique but it's not the same as having someone watching and critiquing.

That makes a big difference and is definitely doable.
I can usually get 2000m in about 8 minutes pushing it. My split is usually 2:00/500m. I'm in moderate shape.
