Doing a race in a week and was hoping to get some advice from some more experienced runnings to see what their routine is during the week leading up to it. I want run more this week to prepare cardio wise but I dont want to get burnt out. Do yall go light during the days leading up to the race? Do you rest the day before the race? Do you start carb loading days before? Any advice on this topic is appreciated.

what distance race, and how has your training been leading up to it? Most people try to taper off some the week of the race. Just some light work or speed work a few days before. No need for carb loading for a 5k or 10k, but longer distances it makes sense to have a carb heavy meal the night before.

For my half-marathon I throttled down the week leading up to the race. TBH, that was a mental hurdle because I love running longer distances and didn’t like the 2-3 mile runs (2 times during week leading up). But, it helps to rest your legs and not overdo it come race day. My mindset had to change regarding carbs also due to not eating carbs that much in general, but carb loading is essential for longer races.

Carb load, reduce mileage, hydrate, stay off your feet the day before, and something for fuel the morning of. I tested different combos during training so I knew how my body reacted. Everyone’s different at the end of the day. Good luck
