Will be moving to the Jefferson Hwy/Stumberg area and looking for gym recs. Commute is not a concern, will be working off of Perkins

Avid gym-goer (5-6x/week). Mostly focus on weight training (free weights, bench, squat rack are a must) but gradually developing an interest in research-backed cardio protocols (zone 2 stuff, etc.)

Not a fan of big box gyms. Prefer locally-operated facilities. I don't need crazy amenities like a pool or indoor track, but a sauna/steamroom would definitely be a big plus.

Spectrum Southdowns kinda looks like my speed. Can anyone provide any intel?

What about Epic Fitness on Highland?

Spectrum kenilworth is a solid gym.

Never been to Spectrum Southdowns but i hear its just as nice if not nicer than Kenilworth.

Club 4 Fitness. Go get a free 3 day pass. Close to your location.

Perkins and what?

I have a feeling you'll change your mind once you're here for a few weeks. Perkins and every intersecting road sucks.

Meee too, buddy.

Thank God I go down Starring Ln to get home. Essen traffic blows.

But over here you have Spectrum, which is pretty nice. If you're into group fitness, they also have an Iron Tribe on Perkins. By the time you hit a workout after work, traffic should have died down a bit.

You need to figure out what time of day you’re working out. Close to home or close to work? I personally don’t like showering at the gym but some don’t mind it.

I commute from around Jones Creek to Essen every day.

I usually work out in the morning between 5a-7a. Don't mind showering at the gym

The YMCA near Perkins and Seigen is great. I lifted there for 4 or 5 years. Was rarely many folks using the weight room.

Both Spectrums are good, southdowns is a better overall gym imo, but the high schoolers take over around 4pm everyday

Calloways is about 1/10 of a mile from stumburg and Jefferson and it is locally owned.

Club 4 Fitness on Jones Creek is also close and has some of the best equipment in BR but it gets crowded.

Spectrum is right there near Essen and Perkins (at Kenilworth).

You also have Calloways right near your home at Jefferson near Stumberg/Tigerbend.

If you want to do the 24 hour thing, they have an Anytime at Highland and Starring (what Essen turns into) and they have one on Coursey near Stumberg.

Very accurate. I try to get there between 10-2 and it’s pretty much empty.

Look into Southern Oaks Athletic Club (SOAC)
You can use the “Rig Room” in the mornings for the big four lifts and anything else.
