well ffmi is taking into account the amount of muscle you have only. not bodyfat. and at 172 at 73" that wouldnt be a ton of muscle overall.
still a good look but ffmi is simply a reading of your fat free mass. and how it ranks

I definitely don't lift to keep bulking up. I lift to be in good shape and to get the resistance training in general.

ffmi specifically...not that i know of but there are studies on muscle and longevity...they are correlation of course but they show positive outcomes especially in quality of life.

quote:I have long been of the mind (especially after hearing Nolan Ryan talk about the virtues of weight lifting and the longevity of his career) that resistance training is more important than "cardio". Attia seems to be coming out now claiming shite like 15+ hours of cardio per week is the be all, end all (despite being radically unrealistic, IMO). What's your opinion?
muscle and longevity

Assuming one is 18% or lower
I rank resistance training as number 1 for health and longevity
diet that’s high in protein number 2
Walking number 3
Ability to perform high intensity cardio number 4(I think ability to sprint I fill out is important in your 50s &60s
Zone 2 cardio number 5
And John Rusin has been on the 10+ hours of zone 2 a week BS. Imo, like yours, totally unrealistic. Many of the influencers have gotten completely out of control saying you need 15-20 of exercise a week. Way way out of control

quote:What's this about? Do you sort of mean just general non-laziness? Like, for me, I intentionally park far away from stores in the parking lot. I always take stairs when possible. I carry heavy bags and the like. I always opt for just a little bit of extra exertion. But I don't frequently just go for long walks.
Walking number 3

There are a bunch of studies looking at correlation between 8k and also 10k steps per day and life span…huge correlations. You will have google them, I’m on my phone typing between sets, sorry

So do you need to have one of those body scans to determine body fat percentage to accurately use the FFMI calc?
Posted on 2/11/24 at 7:16 pm to Scooby
Accurately??? Yes or be completely shredded with fully visible abs

i.e. unless you're completely ripped the FFMI means absolutely nothing of any importance to anyone

I'm at a 27. Need to drop about 25-30 pounds before I get on stage

if you have an accurate BF% you can use it too.
honestly though, most should not even worry about it until below 15% bodyfat on a dexa
