Anyone have traditional or laser surgery to repair a herniated disc? Up until last two years, I would aggravate it once or twice a year, so it was easy to deal with. Now, it seems like I’m tweaking my back every month. Anyway, have an appointment to see a back doctor in BR and wanted to hear if anyone had experience with either.
TIA

Use a neurosurgeon, not an Ortho. The surgery involves nerves and neuros are better trained to deal with nerves. I've had 2 discectomies by the same Neuro and was 100% better after surgery.

Yes, but it hasn’t really made a big difference to be honest. It feels good when I get therapy and have been doing the exercises pretty regularly, but still seem to be hurting it more often.

Following this guys program has helped me out a lot. You could also try Athletic Truth Group for a cheaper and similar program

I'm gonna need it one day. My dad, brother and sister all had to have 2 fused together. We all have it in our neck vertebra. My brother and sister both are glad they got the surgery, but both had a bit of a hard time with it.

Brother said mostly that there was 0% relief for a long time. He felt like it didn't feel any different at all. Until one day he realized it was indeed better and never hurt again.

His also herniated. He said that part was so excruciating. Mine is still in the bulging phase. Been able to avoid tweaking it for like... a couple years now.

DAMN when I do it cripples me, though.

I had the L5-S1 removed when I was 29. I’m 63 now. Never regretted it a minute. It was broken and stuck into the nerve on my left side. Lost 40% of the feeling in my thigh and foot and I have no reflexes on that side. The higher up the problem the more post surgery issues you will have. My suggestion would be to have surgery when you absolutely have to do something and not before.
