I'm OK if I have to do 1 or 2 reps, even with heavier weight. But if I'm doing sets of >6 reps with atleast moderate weight, my grip goes to shite. Even when incorporating almost 5 second pauses in between reps, doesn't help much.

I'm trying to stick with conventional style grip. mixed grip always ends up making me favor whatever side has the under hand. Would prefer to just pull the lighter weight conventionally for now until the grip catches up instead of resorting to straps.

I've started doing holding kettle bell holds/walks, hanging from pullup bar, focusing on maintaining tight grip on pull exercises. For the past month I've been focusing on grip about 3 days/week, seen some improvements but feel like its been minor compared to the amount of grip work I've done.

Have you tried a hook grip?
That close to max effort, I'd stay away from that mixed grip because of the risk of a bicep tear.

If you just a normal lifter, frick hook grip. Get straps.

All the crossfitters will poo poo it but ain't nobody trying to turn pro at exercising.

Use straps for high volume days. If anyone calls you soft, tell them to suck it.

Use straps. If people make fun of you tell em to frick off.

If you still want to exercise your grip strength, add straps after your first or second set

I just use chalk most of the time

But my grip used to limit the frick out of me, so I would use straps.

I do 531 and always do normal grips for the first two sets and straps for the amrap set. It's a good system IMO

It’s all relative to what a person is doing. Strongman can compete with straps, so it really doesn’t matter. Powerlifters only need to do singles in a meet, and a lot of them train with straps during high volume sessions. Hell, Olympic weightlifters use straps during parts of their training. This while thing that lifting with straps makes a person a pussy is so strange to me. Man, just lift the weights.

Biceps tear in that grip because people neglect to pull the slack out and get tight before the lift. It’s more of a failure in technique than anything else.

I've seen it happen too many times (to guys who thought they were using "good form"). Not worth it to me. The heavier you go, the more likely it is for your form to break down. And it's too natural of a movement for that supinated arm to try to unstraighten.

I'll never do an alternate grip. There's no upside to me. Only a potentially severe downside.
