It's been over 24 hrs since my last meal and I'm not very hungry. Should I go as long as possible without eating or will it mess my body up if I don't eat?

Why aren't you hungry?

IF has health benefits, but to just randomly not eat for 24 hours seems weird.

I don't think it is, especially if you are in a gym lifting weights. Everyone has different reasons for losing weight. Unless you need to cut 10 lbs in a few days there are better diets out there.

fasting is very healthy if done correctly even lifting. It takes 36 hours or so before you start buring muscle as fuel. But its a little weird just thrown in randomly.

Ok so I just ate a protein bar to see if I'd notice anything and basically not even 5 minutes after I took the first bite it's like I was starving

I've never fasted so please correct me here. Does fasting not effect your energy level or make you lightheaded at the gym depending on your intensity?

it can at first and depending on volume. Most people adapt quickly.

Leangains would be a good reference for lifting heavy and intermittent fasting.

I usually fast for about 24 hours once a week, when I say fast though I don't eat a meal but will drink water and and sometimes will est a few peanuts, some random fruit or maybe a protein bar.

My body metabolism does really well with it and it is probably not for everyone, but it does alright by me. Also, sometimes I may throw in a few drinks.

i fast often. there are all sorts of resources on this. I'll try to post a few later.

start with an intermittent fast where you get all/most of your calories in a small window. Start with an early dinner (like 6pm) and then go until 1pm the next day without eating--eat a good brunch at 1.

then do another early dinner. it's very doable and you'll have gotten all your calories in a 5-hour period.

Fasting spikes your hgh levels ridiculously high. I forget where the line is but after x amount of hours your hgh level shoots up big time. If I remember to I'll try to find that.

I don't see how any kind of fasting can really be deemed healthy.
IMO it is more and effective regardless of your goals to manage your blood sugar levels by avoiding simple carbohydrates and not over-eating at any meal. Not over-eating being not eating until full or satisfied but trusting that you will feel satiated within 20 minutes of having eaten.
After a few weeks of eating 6 small meals a day doing the above your body will begin to shed the excess stored fat regardless of whether you exercise or not although you will probably be motivated to exercise because of all of the energy you will have but don't stress your system by overdoing it. Keep it up and you will lose all of the fat you ever dreamed of losing.

Well I guess people are different but for me: I eat my last big meal at around 7pm. I don't eat again until around 11:30am for a small lunch that includes some protein, not a lot. By the time I get to the gym at 4pm I feel slightly hungry but once I put the headphones on, that all goes away and I'm ready to roll for an hour, or a little more.

then i suggest you read the extensive, peer-reviewed scientific research and studies that have been performed saying the exact opposite.

and I dont see how you can continue to spread the bro science you are spreading.

Leangains.com

Read it, learn it, love it is all i can tell you. and stop spreading BS about 6 meals a day being good for you. You are baking your insides doing that.

I ate way too much last night. Mini-vacation with family and had a big fried seafood platter for 1st time in awhile (usually go with fresh fish when eating seafood) along with a few drinks. Followed by chipping in to finish off the huge dessert.

Definitely not the healthiest option although I'm 'fasting' today and will be having a normal sized dinner tonight (about 22 hr fast). It mitigates the damage.

I was wondering how much BF% varies in this type of case. I can gain 5+ lb of temporary weight that often goes away completely after 48 hrs. Could it be more than 1% BF difference?
