I am on a very very low dose of medicine and I am contemplating getting off. Has anyone had any success?
ETA: What benefits have y’all noticed from quitting?

Yes. I was on lexapro for about 3.5 years. It definitely helped treat my symptoms early on but I realized I did not want to use it forever for a variety of reasons. I weaned myself off it and went cold turkey probably faster than recommended. I felt like shite for about 3 weeks but new there would be a light at the end of the tunnel. I would have brain zaps, it was weird
Did the classic starting working out more, eating better and more positive thinking and never looked back.
The withdrawal can be no joke. I would definitely talk to whoever is prescribing it to you about this.

Never fully gotten off of them, but forgotten to take them for periods of time. It's the worst. I'm concerned about the day that I do go off and will make sure to have a program to wean off of them. Brain zaps are real. Feels like my skin is crawling when trying to sleep. Hard to describe it, but just awful and uncomfortable any time I am sitting doing nothing such as trying to sleep or rest.

I was young, should have never been on them but was going through a difficult part of my life.
Had the self realization of what the problem was (myself) and quit Prozac after being on a year. Started working out and never looked back.

Yeah but then I had the incidents...
Jk you cannot just quit these drugs, talk to your doctor.
I am on Lexapro now and was going to get off last year, but with covid, losing my job etc. Me and the doc decided now was not the time.

Yeah I took a low dose for a little while and then stopped. I don't feel like I need it all the time, though I do have periods, usually a day or two, where my anxiety will go to 11.

Try ketamine clinic instead. Works fricking wonders.

Yes. Klonopin and Lexapro. Not both at the same time.

I quit mine cold turkey and had the same thing. Brain zaps, it was like skip in time if that makes sense. I remember for like 2 days anything would drive me insane. Irrationally pissed off for the slightest thing. It took about a week for the zaps to stop

Have y’all noticed any benefits from stopping?

My wife was on Effexor for several years and it was basically ruining her life. She weened off of it over the course of about three months and had withdrawal effects for another six or so after.
Since coming off she's lost about 50lbs and isn't just a fuzzy brained no libido zero energy irritable zombie sleeping every minute she's not at work, so overall I'd say coming off was an improvement for her.
Fwiw her doctor didn't want her to ween off.

I weaned myself off of Zoloft slowly. I lost all of the weight I had gained and libido came back.

I don't recommend cold turkey. I did it twice, second time came very close to hurting myself and had horrible shakes.

I did 4 or years ago when I stopped being cop. I was fine for couple years then realized I needed to get back on. Happy to be back on but didnt have issue getting off.

Regained mental confidence from not feeling like I need medication to have a reasonable degree of control over my emotions. I say this not as a slight to feeling like you needed them, but in response to what it took for me personally to admit I needed medication in the first place. Honestly, it hurt me some in the beginning because prior to reaching the point where it became obvious I needed them I sort of internally prided myself on mental toughness. At the point of admitting I needed help it felt like I lost that and too much control over my thoughts.
Then I felt like I was reliant on them and scared to try to get off at various points. Started the gym and changed my diet. Had some quick, but reasonable results and decided it was time to try to get off. Did so with physical advice, continued dietary and exercise changes and haven’t looked back. Lost 50 lbs, became addicted to the gym, then covid actually led me to take up running since the gyms closed. Gyms reopened and I’ve been doing a modified schedule of 3 lifts and 3 runs per week. In the best shape of my life, have set PRs in the gym, continue to steadily improve with my running (which prior to this I’d always HATED).
Far from perfect, I’m still anxious, but I’ve learned to control it better. Thankfully have not had any sort of panic attack since coming off. 100% believe the gym and then running have been integral to this.

And then after that, go bigger with psilocybin.

That’s a hell of a side affect.

If your dose is really very low, I'd certainly give it a shot. Talk to your doctor on how to reduce the dose more over time until finally the number is zero, provided that's possible with your specific med.
