Let me put things in perspective for you.

The Chitimatcha Open is a web event played at Le Triomphe. In 2014, that course hosted the LA State Am and the winner shot -20 over four days and won by 6 strokes. In 2015, he won the State Am again and then turned pro.

After two years of pro golf, he finally qualified for the Mackenzie Tour this summer (which is a lower tier tour than web.com). He hasn't made a cut on that tour yet.

Again, guy shot 65-63 on the weekend at a web.com course in 2014 to win State Am by 6 strokes, and after years of professional development and playing golf for a living, has yet to make a cut on a lower tier tour than the web.com. Perspective. These guys are good.

Stories like this always amaze me, especially after watching no-names play like dogshit on whatever crap PGA Tour event was this weekend. There was a field of no names and these guys were all over par, yet they'd still kick my arse left, right, up, and down on their worst days.

Every place you play has someone that can go low. If you haven't won State Ams and contended in the US Am or are a highly ranked college player, you are probably wasting your sponsors money. I know there have been plenty that have made it that don't fall into these categories but they are few and far between.

doesn't matter if he or any other athlete (or golfer on this board) is a scratch golfer ... weekend golf and tournament golf are two very, very, very different things ...

This is a fun thread to revisit.

I'm shocked Steph shot 74, but man that guy is just such a freaking competitor.

better than i expected ... kudos to him ... didn't disagree with the decision to give him an exemption ... just didn't think he'd play better than he/his team did in the nba finals (did i just go there?) ...

The chef with a 74,74 to finish t-148. Shot even on the back on Friday. I would say he validated himself this week.

He validated himself by shooting 8 over on a web.com event? How many people did he beat? I bet there are 50 guys here on this board that can whip him.

Well considering half this board thought he wouldn't break 80 and a guy he played against in the tournament said he would eat his golf bag if Curry broke 80 today, yeah I would say he validated himself.

I believe he's a 2 handicap. Go look at the scores from the mid am this weekend. There are plenty of guys who are listed as about as good as Curry who aren't going to shoot the score he shot this week in 2 rounds. There are not 50 guys on this board who could shoot 74-74 in a web.com event.

Agreed. Where I think Curry has the edge is the "stage". A web.com event is nothing compared to an NBA finals so the nerves side of it is eliminated.

I agree that he's going to be less nervous than most first timers, but golf is a different animal. He doesn't have Durant around to bail him out on the course. He said he was nervous and couldn't feel his hands on his first putt yesterday. I'm very surprised that he played as well as he did. I'd like to know at what course he carries a 2 handicap. I'd bet it's fairly tough.

I was told there's no way he carries a 2 handicap...

Well there are 64 guys at +4 or better and I'm sure all those guys aren't two handicaps. I would also think that the mid am course played more difficult than the web course.

I just don't see how what he did was that impressive for a good player.

Curry would run you off the course.

74-74 is damn impressive in my book. I was thinking he would be shooting 84-84 at best.

Hats off to curry, proved me wrong

I'm not sure you get how handicaps work.

A quick internet search shows that at least 12 of those players (probably more as I got tired of looking) have over a 2 handicap index
