Rory does 180 and says LIV players should be welcomed back to the PGA with no penalty

Rory McIlroy believes there should be no penalty for LIV rebels who want to return to play on traditional golf tours. McIlroy admits he has “changed his tune” following an earlier hardline stance against the LIV Golf Series but feels freedom of movement is necessary to protect his sport’s currently conflicting circuits.
quote:
“I think life is about choices,” said the world No 2. “Guys made choices to go and play LIV, guys made choices to stay here. If people still have eligibility on this tour and they want to come back and play or you want to try and do something, let them come back. “I think it’s hard to punish people. I don’t think there should be a punishment. Obviously I’ve changed my tune on that because I see where golf is and I see that having a diminished PGA Tour and having a diminished LIV Tour or anything else is bad for both parties. It would be much better being together and moving forward together for the good of the game. That’s my opinion of it. So to me, the faster that we can all get back together and start to play and start to have the strongest fields possible I think is great for golf.”

Seems like there was hope for the PGA/PIF merger to possibly get done early enough so some LIV players could get in to The Players this year

Seems the players tune from last year had already changed from penalty for liv guys to pooled money for those that never left
Wasn’t it equity in “NewCo”?
ETA: found it. I thought this was old news in terms of what the PGA would want. In June it went from penalties to bonuses for members that stayed
ETA 2: seems like we are getting a deal between PGA, Outside investors, and PIF imminently

quote:
PGA Tour players who stayed aboard after LIV Golf's formation will receive "a piece of equity" in the new for-profit organization in the works as the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund now join forces.
PGA Tour policy board member Jimmy Dunne spoke with ESPN's Mark Schlabach on the matter.
"The new [company] would grow, and the [current PGA Tour] players would get a piece of equity that would enhance and increase in value as time went on," Dunne said.
"There would have to be some kind of formulaic decision on how to do that. It would be a process to determine what would be a fair mechanism that would be really beneficial to our players."

Feel like most people are aware about how different the landscape of the PGA Tour is now from when LIV first started.
And it’s ok to change your opinion as things change around you.

If you merge, you obviously can’t penalize the players from LIV while actively merging with their boss (PIF). Once the merger materialized, a penalty seems almost impossible to construct. Now if they never merge with PIF and only use other investors it would still be possible, but it doesn’t look like it’s heading that way.
Now, if in the new deal, the LIV players have full access to the PGA tour and the tour members that stayed get nothing out of it, the Tour players would have to oust Jay. It would be total failure in the new deal for them

I saw somewhere talking about Rory maybe signing with LIV based on some of the things he’s said recently, him pulling out of events, talking about moving from FL to London, etc.
That would def be some wild shite if it happened

Good…cause this is and always was my problem with LIV besides the obscene stupid money
Splintering the tour and having watered down events on both sides
I will try and watch LIV one more time this year and hope the broadcasting is better. I tuned in once last year and couldn’t watch. Looked and sounded like a circus. Just not for me, some may like it though

Not anytime soon, but at some point - when it’s no longer called “LIV” he will absolutely play on a global tour with team golf.

Pga tour events
One match play event in Aussie with country teams
One match play event in Europe with country teams
One match play event in oriental Asia with country teams
One match play event in Muslim land with country teams
The end. Move on

I’m guessing you hate Rahm and Koepka equally from doing 180s. Totally consistent IM CERTAIN

I just don’t lie and pretend to care about stroke play golf with make believe teams all because I’m a bored house husband looking for drama and Pinot

This feels like a pretty clear shot at JM. No?

He’s a mental midget who thought his influence was larger than what LIV was doing. Now he’s crawfishing since the writing is on the wall. The guy is a hell of a golfer but it ends there. He’s no different than someone like Floyd Mayweather.

I’m sure you had the same take for koepka and Rahm “crawfishing” when they took their LIv deals

They’re all hypocrites but they didn’t go to the mat like Rory. That’s what makes him the worst of the worst. It was all BS and posturing.

Rahm and koepka were both very vocal about liv not being for them and their qualms with it. They weren’t quiet on it at all. They made multiple statements shitting on LIV
Truth is everyone is out for their best interests. Rahm, rory, jay, etc.
The only complete dumabss move by the pga tour was the blood money angle. Nobody gives a shite. Humans just want money
Now, what I don’t get at all, is fans being happy middle eastern leaders are making a play. They are the dirtiest pieces of shite they’re filth to the western world. Go to Paris and see how much it sucks they are making moves into our sectors more and more. Players taking money? I can’t blame them, I would do the same. But fans that get not a single cent out of it? They should want the Muslim countries as far from any business and relations in this country as possible
