Putter for a beginner

So, I was given a nice set of used clubs to learn with, but was told the putter is terrible and would need to get a new one. Any suggestions on what to get? Want something that won't break the bank, but won't suck and be frustrating to learn with.

Get an odyssey or ping off ebay

How much you looking to spend?
The Wilson Staff Infinite line is a good bang for the buck as is the Cleveland Huntington Beach. Both are milled putters and cost $100 or less if you find a good sale. You can probably grab a second hand Odyssey or Ping online for $100 or less as well.
I have the Wilson Staff Infinite Windy City model and like it. $60 on Rockbottomgolf a while back.

If you're just beginning get a mallet. Something with a high MOI that will help your stroke and reduce any yips.
Look for an old Taylormade spider for the best bang for your buck

The old Red X2 Cameron may be cheaper if you want to go with a half moon mallet

I realize Scotty Cameron is a great putter, but why would a beginner drop $150-$200 for a used Scotty Red X2. That's what a good condition one is going for on 2ndswing right now. A $60 used Odyssey would get the same results.

Just go to dicks and handle a few different styles to see what feels the best to you

Figured a 10 year old putter would be selling for 125 max. I have one in my trunk. I guess I'll trade it in towards a new club.

PGA resale is $80 or so right now. Trade in values are always such a rip, if you have no use for it sell it to OP for $100. Everyone wins
ETA: My apologies as well. Missed where you initially recommended an Odyssey or Ping on ebay.

Buddy just bought the spider (Taylormade) that some of the top pros use. He still sucks at putting.
