Greens are still very firm, but you can leave a mark now. I still find I have to try to play 5-10 yards short of the flag to get it close.

the greens just haven't settled enough to break much

I don't think this is going to change. I expect them to become more receptive, but those are some of the flatest, least contoured greens around, save for 18.

I enjoyed it out there yesterday. It has a lot of potential and I'll definitely be back.

My cart also died on the front nine

played it a couple months back and thought it was one of the easiest courses I've played. Can miss fairways on most holes and it's not an issue. The greens were extremely hard at the time. For back pins, you pretty much had to land the ball on the front of the green and let it release back to the hole. Hardly any contouring, as others have said. Zero chance there is ever a PGA event there.

Played there today for the first time. Course in good shape and greens are very nice. I was very disappointed in the design. It's basically wide open with a few doglegs around oak trees. Not much character to the course at all in my opinion.

I would be shocked if the Zurich ever goes there. If so, the pros will tear that place up .

I agree with the design being wide open, but I don't see how you can say it doesn't have much character. There's a stretch of holes on the front 9 from 4-7 that are pretty meh, and 9 and 18 are very similar par 5s, but the rest of the course was designed very well, IMO. The par 3s are all really good tests, and the stretch of holes on the back 9 from 11-18 are pretty cool with 100 year old oak trees and bunkers shaping things. There's a driveable par 4 along with a 450 yard par 4 that wraps around a pond. No, it isn't overly difficult, but it could be stretched out to 7300 yards if necessary.

I agree that the PGA Tour guys would tear it up, but that's mostly because I think the green complexes are too simple. I don't think I've had a putt break more than 8-12 inches in 3 rounds out there.

There are some beautiful oaks out there for sure. Just feel like they could have framed the holes a lot better, some mounds , more fairway bunkers, something to make it seem like it wasn't so damn open. The par 3's are good tests based on length alone but are mostly pretty similar in terms of length and design IMO. There are prob 20 courses in LA that have more character to them than that IMO. Not a bad course , but expected more from a guy the caliber of Jones. My .02.

I definitely agree they could have done some more shaping. Maybe a few cross bunkers.

The thing for me was that it was a really enjoyable round of golf. It's a fun course to play. Lost balls, OB and forced carries off tees aren't enjoyable if you're not going great. Some courses overly punish tee shots that aren't even poorly hit.

I'd rather play Bayou Oaks over TPC everyday and twice on Sunday.

All of this. A high handicap isn't going to enjoy TPC very much. Hell, I'm a single digit, and I don't overly enjoy TPC. I've also been in some places at City Park South that screwed me, mostly under oak trees. If you get under one of those, you can make a double bogey in a heartbeat.

I don't really want to turn this into an argument because it isn't likely that we're going to convince each other, but there isn't a single par 3 out there that is even close in design to another one other than the length. In fact, all 4 of them have the trouble in different places. Maybe you need to replay it.

Fair enough. Cheers. (I don't know how to insert the glasses clinking picture)

I'm sure I'll make it out there again someday and maybe I'll see it differently.
