I believe the winning score will be higher than the US Open, and that's a testament to how out of touch with reality the USGA has become. The USGA now seeks to turn their most storied and challenging tournament (US OPEN) into a birdie fest in hopes of attracting "Bababooey" bros as fans in an attempt to maintain the popularity of the game. A few years ago it was the "natural/organic" course management idea, which resulted in Pinehurst being transformed into a goat farm. This year was obviously a miss as well.

Conversely, The renovations at Quail Hollow look awesome and the re-sodding of the entire course in a span of 90 days is pretty amazing. The course looks far more challenging, the greens look firm and fast, and the rough appears to be far thicker than PGA's in the past.

I saw an interview with the club president of Quail Hallow and he seemed like a good ole boy trying to make this course a working mans Augusta. The club president mentioned several times how Arnold Palmer and his father were good friends, and worked together to bring professional golf to the state of NC. One of the few decent interviews I had watched conducted by the Golf Channel recently, TBH.

I believe the winning score will be around six under (-6), but would really like to see it around par.

The course is long but soft. I've been here since Thursday and it has rained every day.

Really don't like the front 9 changes. In order to make #1 a long, tough par 4, the PGA created a chicken shite par 3 (#4) and turned #5 into a non-descript par 4.

The one change I like is at #11. Took out trees on the inside of the dogleg and put in a long, deep fairway bunker. Nice risk/reward there.

Because of the rain, I can see several players -10 or better this week.

I'm still going with Rickie and JB Holmes is my dark horse.

What is the deal with the green on that hole?
I heard several players complaining that it is so firm they couldn't get a tee to go into the ground, and that the slopes are unfair.

Don't know. I've been on the tee but not the green. I've seen a couple dozen players hit to it and none had a problem getting the ball to stop.

Depending on player/wind/etc most players will be hitting 7 or even 8 iron there. Should not be an issue.

I will say this. The green slopes hard away from the golfers in the back right, but I've seen worse. Some guys just like to piss and moan.

They went back to the original way it was designed.

The weather at Erin Hills didn't cooperate. The dumb rule changes are their way of attracting the people like that.

Shinnecock will not be a birdie fest. When the weather doesn't cooperate at Pebble, birdies are made too. I.E., Gil Morgan

Good thing you don't have to tee up your putts. The US Open was almost 2 months ago. It's time to let that one go.

I don't think the USGA changed philosophically. Oakmont's winning score was about the same as the last time it was held there. Merion was won at +1,( I think).

They had a culmination of things happen at Erin Hills that lead to the low scores IMO:

Controversies at both Chambers Bay and Oalmont made them skiddish, so they cut back some of the fescue after some grumbling (Kevin Na)

It rained Wednesday and Friday which softened up the course

Unfortunately, the weather is looking bad for Quail Hollow, so I think you'll see some low numbers. -14 to -18 will win.

Hopefully, the long term lesson will be that length is a terrible way to defend par. Fast and firm, challenging greens, and tighter fairways do a much better job.

Keeps changing but rain is expected at least two days. Right now, Friday is looking like crap (90% chance of rain).

Tomorrow not looking too bad. Might see a stray shower or two after lunch. Bring rain gear.

It depends on how much they use the Sub-Air, but I think 10 under will win it. I mean the lowest in the history of the Wells Fargo is 16 under. I think Jordan wins it.

Nobody has had a ball check up and spin back on them all week, either. These greens are soft.

Due to the recent conversion to Champion grass on all greens the greens will be VERY FIRM as is characteristic for newly sprigged or sodded Champion greens!

It usuay takes at leaxt a year for green surfaces to soften up and become receptive to approach shots.

ETA Predict winning score to be 9 under for reasons stated above

Spent the day out there today, about 9 hours. Greens are very firm (but I saw some approach shots check up and a couple back up), and very fast. A LOT of tentative putts if on the wrong side. The rough is Bermuda and if you are familiar with it (it is very common here in NC) then your lie can be very tricky or down right brutal. If it sits on top, it can be picked pretty well. If it sinks down in the rough, then hard to control. The course is very long and the rain has been spotty lately. Saw several drives fly 300+ yards and get less than 2 yards of roll. Saw some hit and run out pretty well.

Followed Louis Oosthuizen, D Willet and J B Holmes. GREAT group to follow. Louis O. is stunningly long. And small. Looks like 5'8-160? Outdrove Holmes (well known bomber) several times.

Beers ARE $11.00 but they are the 24oz ones so 'only' 5.50...really.

I saw Vijay 4 putt...hahahaha

This is a lot to read...Sorry it rambled...Didn't even drink...ha.
