Doing a Pebble Trip in May. Playing Pebble, Spyglass, Spanish Bay and The Bay.

Any recs for restaurants, places to get a drink, itinerary, etc?

Also I assume walking all the courses is a must to get the full experience? What about caddies or fore caddies?

Appreciate any help from those who have been.

Definitely walk if able. Caddies are a must to enjoy the round.

We like the following restaurants:
1. Casanova's (French and Italian)
2. Il Tegamino (Italian)
3. Aubergine (expensive - tasting menu)
4. Pacific's Edge (fantastic views, request table by the window) - simiple food

Drinks - Terrace House at Pebble Beach with view of 18th green; Tap House at Pebble Beach and Traps at Spanish Bay (go at sunset and sit by the fire pit and listen for the bagpipes).

Where to Eat and Drink Near Monterey and Carmel

There has been a lot of turnover in restaurants, with COVID, but I think these are all still open. Have fun.

Absolutely get a caddie. Just went recently, had a caddie for Pebble but not Spyglass. The experience with a caddie was much better. Spyglass was awesome but reading the greens and stuff like that was very difficult. If you’re spending the money to do the trip, it’s definitely worth spending a little extra to do it right is my .02.

Also, Pebble was an easy walk but Spyglass kicked my arse trying to walk. A lot more elevation change on that one. Can’t take the cart off the path but I think it’s worth it to have one for that course.

There are so many elite seafood joints around that area

Phil's Fish Market

This was my favorite at Moss Point. We went to a place in Carmel after the final round of the U.S. Open and that place was insane as well I just can't remember the name.

All great replies on here, including the suggestion to walk to get the full experience.

Definitely agree with the Spanish Bay suggestion and getting drinks while the bagpiper plays. Nothing better anywhere IMO.

For other restaurants, I would also suggest Clint's place at Mission Ranch in Carmel, and there is a little restaurant in Carmel Valley called Corkscrew Cafe that is a favorite of mine. Plus in May, the odds of getting fog on the coast for the entire day are fairly high ("May gray"), but going inland a bit to Carmel Valley, you can usually escape the fog and get some sun.

And if you want to let loose in the evening (assuming this is a guys' trip) and not go into Monterey, Barmel and Sade's in Carmel are really the only two spots for late night fun. They always go off during the Pro Am, but can't really speak to a regular setting.

Lots of good rec.’s. I’ll just add Alvarado Street Brewery if you’re into craft beer. They also have a good restaurant

1. Buy a dukes club membership (discount rates on SB and spyglass)
2. Cancel your room at pebble
3. Book a room at La playa
4. Book your rounds at SB and spyglass (30 days out)
5. Have 36 booked all three days and call the day before for pebble and just cancel the rounds you don’t want

I just saved you $4k

Spanish Bay is my favorite course ever. Spyglass is the toughest course I’ve ever played. I’ve walked Pebble numerous times but never had the pleasure of shooting 120 there. Bernardus out in Carmel Valley is awesome and avoid fisherman’s wharf in Monterey. I lived there in 1998-1999 and would move back in a second if I win the lottery

It's a great trip, honestly. Only place better is Bandon for pure golf, but Monterey has better food etc.

Definitely take caddies. Spyglass is long and plays really long if there is wind.

If there's any way to make it happen you should try and play Pasatiempo in Santa Cruz, but I get it if you can't get out there.

Agree about Spanish bay resort for the bagpipes at sunset. It is great. The course Tiger redesigned is just a short par three course, but I haven't played it.

Budget high for any souvenirs from Pebble golf shop.

A new restaurant just opened at The Hay, it was not open when I was there but l could see that being a great place to have to some drinks. Great view and is fun to watch groups play through. Make sure you budget enough time to play on the putting green there too.

Can’t miss Carmel by the Sea for dining.

Been 3 times. Going back last week of August

This thread truly covers everything I could add, except to include Pacific Grove in your list of options

It was recommended to me by a PGA caddie as the best 9 holes in golf, referring to the back 9, and it did not disappoint. Public course pricing too. Staying at a home on the course in August.

Only been to Pebble once so don't have much to add. I will say the Reuben sandwich at the restaurant on bottom floor overlooking 18th green is one of best sandwiches I have ever had. Great place to eat, have a few drinks and hang out on the patio.

THIS! I have not been, but my golf buddy Matt says it is awesome. Matt has played all the biggies, from Pinehurst, to Bandon, to Whistling Straits. I trust his opinions.

Yes, if u fly into SF and not straight to Monterrey, Santa Cruz is about halfway there, and Pasatiempo is a treat

Brutally tough for a mid hdcper, but an Alister Mackenzie design
