I lucked out as a kid, though I didn't see it that way intially. My home course was closed on Mondays, so I couldn't play or hit the range. I still wanted to play golf, so I would spend hours every Monday working on my short game and it made me a lot better player than I would have been if the course was open and I just played a round or two every Monday.

There's a drill I use when my putting goes to hell. It will make you a killer inside of 6 feet or whatever distance you use for the drill.

Get a tape measure, some tees and five balls. Measure out 6 feet from the hole and place a tee every foot beginning at the 2-ft mark (12 inches is a waste of time. If you can't make a 12-inch putt, give up the game).

Starting at two feet, make all five putts. If you miss, start over.

After making 5 at 2-feet, go to 3-feet, and so on. After making all 5 at 6 feet, work back in. If you miss anywhere along the way, start over.

The key is once you make the first putt at each distance, DON'T change a thing. Just put the next ball in place and stroke it.

This drill takes some time, but if you do it correctly you will make 45 straight putts inside of 6 feet.

If you have extra time, rotate around the hole 90 degrees. If you go all the way around the hole at 90 degree intervals, and never miss, that is 180 straight short putts in a row.

If you can do it once a week, you will be killing those short putts.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I like the sound of that drill.

Definitely need to put in some practice time on the greens.

Sounds like this drill could help build confidence, which is sorely lacking.

That it does, my friend. That it does.

It also helps you to develop a smooth stroke. If you have a jabby stroke, you will likely never complete this drill, because a jabby stroke is inconcistent.

It literally forces you to develop a smooth, rhythmic stroke for short putts.

Also, the drill goes quicker if you have a helper. Pay your kid a few bucks to be your automatic ball return (or someone else's kid).

Better take you a cooler, drinks, snacks, maybe a lawn chair, and a change of clothes. From the sounds of it, you will be there a while.

Oh, and a weeks worth of vacation time from work!

Get a Monday off and hit up Old Colony.

Might be a tad bumpy next week since they were supposed to punch the greens today.

Yeah, I may wait for those suckers to heal.

We should tee it up sometime, though. Not sure I can get a Monday off before August.

Is he a player? I could probably get my dad down here on a Monday and we could have a nice little quarter skins + trash game
