Playing with a buddy this weekend and he just got one. He’s a mid 90’s player who’s big drives go 250-260 so it’s not a brag when I say I’m a better golfer than he is and longer. He was still hacking it up yesterday but on the few drives that he pured they were out there 280+ which is huge for him. I have a 7-8 year old Taylormade RBZ, love the club but could I expect similar distance improvements if I switched to the Mavrik?

I’m a 7 handicap who’s big drives go 290-310, average drive 260ish to 280ish

Modern drivers make the ball go farther because they are more forgiving and can reduce backspin. If you are already squaring up the ball, you can expect a 5-10, maybe 15 yards= gain on your best hits, but don't expect to add 20-30 yards to your drive.

Honestly, I think that the Rouge driver was better.

I played yesterday with my Maverik I am +10 yards average from my Nike Vapor Pro (about the same age as your driver). I put my driver shaft that I was fitted to 8 years ago into it and i'm not looking back anytime soon!

Hit one 370 into a par4

Interesting, how much is your spin reduced? I play a fade off the tee that can turn into a slice on a bad swing, will I notice a massive difference on that front? Honestly extra distance is great, but I am long enough for the courses I play to be a wedge or low iron into most greens so it’s not like I need more distance, but if it can significantly reduce my side spin I’d be interested

Go get fit.

There are 3 different versions of the Mavrik driver (Mavrik, Mavrik Max and Mavrik Sub Zero).

Maybe one of those will be a lot better than your RBZ. Maybe not. Maybe there's a different driver model that works for your swing. What works for your buddy's swing may be entirely wrong for yours.

Get fit, and use your driver as a baseline. Then you can test current (and last year's) models across different brands and know what is best for you.

yea id go get fitted, it can help reduce the side spin, I was wondering how your range of drives was between 260-310 yards

With the Nike I was spinning 1900-2100 consistently

With the Maverick I’m around the same maybe a little less 1800-2000

The stock rouge shaft I was spinning the crap out of the Maverick around 2400...swapped out shafts and now I’m back down. So I fully believe the shaft made the difference over the driver, but I did see an increase of almost a full club lower into the green when I switched out the stock shaft.

It would’ve been awesome to have this tech when we were back in college. You would’ve been driving it through Par 4s

Go with the new Big Bertha. My brother had the same issue and now he never slices.

I love how this is the end all be all answer on this board for EVERYTHING like it’s a revolutionary idea.

I’ve been fit for clubs like most other decent golfer, I know what shaft I need and how to hit a cut vs draw. I hit a cut bc it is more natural and more consistent for me off the tee.

I posted range of drives because like everyone else I have a range, low end vs high end, most drives I hit are in between those numbers, probably 275-285, the problem with posting that is then 10 people come in saying “you don’t hit it that far blah blah” because for whatever reason everyone on this board thinks everyone else is lying.

Look at the post below “you wouldn’t be asking if you were really a 7 handicap” lolol why would I lie about being a 7 handicap that isn’t that impressive. A 7 handicap is someone who shoots between 78-88 at most munis and can have rounds even worse. I swear most of you “experts” have no idea how most of this shite works.

Sorry for the rant, it’s just annoying when every club, swing, or advice post gets the automatic response is “GO GET FITTED”, like its some revolutionary idea
Some of us actually know what kind of clubs we need and use them, I was just trying to get some advice on a hot new driver guys.

ETA: btw thanks Beaverpro for the feedback

Clearly you don’t know what clubs you should be swinging if you’re on here asking others advise on what club to swing. If you knew you wouldn’t be asking.

So coming somewhere to ask an opinion about a new club you don’t own = don’t know what clubs you should hit?

Ok, go buy one off the rack at Dicks. Your 7 handicap tells me, get an 75g x-stiff. Good luck!

The Maverick head is an upgrade from your RBZ, the shaft makes all the difference.

If you knew what club(s) to hit isn’t the logical step to go hit the damn thing instead of asking others what to hit (hence go get fit). Stop being a fricking imbecile.

The Mavrik driver is legit. I demoed one earlier this year and I was easily 15 yards longer with the 10.5 deg. Mavrik than with my 9 deg Big Bertha.

Tested the mavrik. Didn’t find enough difference in it and the rogue to make the switch.
Played taylormade for years and the RBZ wasn’t a great driver for me so I’d say it would definitely be an upgrade over that head.
