Girl's only 16, but this is easily one of the most shameful things I've seen in the sport. I blame the caddy as well. About 2:00 in the video is when it starts.

If my daughter did that shite we would be WD ing. In the interview you can almost tell she was baiting the other girl into that, by the way she says well I guess I still won. No sportsmanship period.

It's the other girls fault. Just stand there until you hear good.

It sucks and it's not really in the spirit of the game, but she grabbed it so quick she didn't even give the girl a chance to say good.

Yes, she picked up her ball before the putt was conceded. You heard the referee come in and tell her that she couldn't concede after the fact, so my guess is the girl who ended up winning tried to say it was good after she picked it up. I don't have an issue with anything that happened. Tough way to lose, but it's a lesson learned.

How is that shameful? She didn't even have time to concede the putt.

That is pretty fricked up.

I get that she never verbalized the concession... and it's a lesson learned. But she comes across a little brat in the interview..

She's stuck between being excited for the win and feeling guilty. I've been in a similar situation where I was conceded a hole I shouldn't have been. Match play using HC and the other guy didn't realize who got strokes where. He picked up when we would have split. It was a crappy feeling.

I didn't see anything unacceptable about the ruling. USGA is fanatical about rules in their tournaments. It's not a weekend game at the golf course, it's a USGA event.

Not the same. That was a 10 inch gimme. I guarantee you putts that were three times as long as that one had been given throughout the day. Had the putt been verbally conceded yet, no, but 100 players out of 100 would have given that putt.

They are talking about it right now on MOrning Drive. The problem they have is that she said "I didnt say that was good, but I was going to. " If she doesnt say anything they walk to the next tee. It was shitty, 10 inch putt, had been playing like 20 holes. She was watching the girl putt cause it was to win the match. If that is anyone who has ever played a 5 dollar Nassau as soon as it misses at that speed you say thats good. She said she hated to win like that, if she really did hate it she would have walked to the next tee.

Golf is hard and dumb, but it gets worse when you don't follow the rules.

Apparently she COULDN'T walk to the next tee regardless. The referee said it hadn't been conceded so it was a violation.

That is a shame. It will be interesting to see the winner's mindset today.

So then someone could call in 25 minutes later, and we would have a Lexi Thompson situation?

The USGA did the right thing, sucks for the girl but she was aware of the situation she was in at that moment. This wasn't a Friday afternoon at the country club, it was the semi-finals of a USGA event.

Damn Erica - say good and move on the next hole - you were tied with the 3,000 ranked junior girl - looks like you were looking for an easy way out to get the win.

I can hear Erica say "I did not say that was good."

If that was my daughter, she would be WDing - she shoulda said good as soon as the putt came to rest a few inches from the hole....or just kept walking to the next tee box.

Now, Moon learned a huge lesson - just stand there and force the playing partner to say good - I guarantee you that she had been baited all day - the top level kids will do that...and Moon being ranked so low had probably not had this level of experience yet.

Good thing I am not Shepherd's future college coach - cause she would not have a scholarship offer this morning.

It is match play once the hole is over and you are on the next tee you cant go back and look for penalties once the hole is completed.

quote:

A player or team’s strategy may change as the score of a match changes, so the Rules of Golf demand that match play infractions be reported as soon as possible. A match play tournament committee may only consider a claim if it’s made “in a timely manner,” according to Rule 2-5. Typically, a claim is timely if it’s made before the opponent begins play on the next hole, or before she leaves the green of the final hole. The claim might also be considered timely, however, if it’s reported before the result of the match is officially announced.

If she was going to concede the putt, and didnt wan to win that way then you dont say shite and walk to the next tee.

If she had NOT conceded the putt, and that IS the case, then you would have had her lie?

The putt should have been conceded, but it was not before Moon touched it. As I understand it from what the referee said, it CAN NOT be conceded after the fact. It is not Erica's fault.

Who was the first person to raise the issue? I couldn't tell from that clip.

Erica was the one who said, quote, " I didnt say that was good, but I was going to", she raised the issue. Like I said if you didnt want to win that way you keep your trap shut and walk to the next tee.
