Calling golf cart mechanics.

This is the battery compartment. It’s a 2013 club car precedent.
1. The previous owner said something about the wires going into the silver box on the left converts it to a 36v even though it’s a 48v. But it also is slow like a 36v. I’ve owned both so I know it should be much faster.
2. It jerks when you accelerate quickly??
3. The battery light and batteries stay engaged even when turned off (because of the silver box apparently)?
Any help is welcome. Im mechanically illiterate lol

The silver box is a converter, I’m guessing there are lights or a stereo system and that converter puts out 12volts to the accessories. Upgrade the electric motor and go with lithium batteries if you want more speed. There also may be a governor holding your speed down.

Are those 6V batteries?

Looks like (6) 6v or it could be (6) 8v. Tough to read.

Google shows those RN+ batteries as 8V so it’s a 48V set up.

Something else is pulling load off the batteries. One thing you could do is figure out what is pulling on them. Do you have a voltage meter? If not go pick one up at Home Depot. Do not need the best. Then go from there. Break it down (one step at a time). Test every connection and each battery individually. First look closer at the batteries and figure out if it is 36 or 48. See what all 6 batteries as a block are sending and also what each battery by itself is doing.
Does it work? Not sure what the exact problem is that you are asking about. I think you are asking about why those lights are on. That could just be a short. Maybe something is not grounded?

Sorry that is definitely a 48v. It has 4 cells on each battery. 2v per cell. 8v per battery. Not sure why it would ever need to be converted into a 36?

Could be that your ignition switch is going bad. Sounds similar to an issue I had with my cart. $20 fix

100%. I upgraded my motor to a Navitas 440 setup and love it. I keep it throttled down in the neighborhood but can get up to 29mph if I need to get on the "big road". Very happy over the 11mph I was getting.
Didn't do an upgrade to lithium batteries.
ETA: If it's being jerky could it be the solenoid going bad?
