They are turning 27 holes and a driving range into 9 holes and a driving range. I don't hate the reduction, but the way they decided to do this is asinine.

1 looks to be a forced carry, which isn't ideal for a course that handles a bunch of new to the game golfers and The First Tee.

The little bit of a walk from 1 to 2 isn't terrible.

2-3-4 could be some interesting holes based on what's there.

The walk from 4 to 5 and 5 to 6 makes no sense. They couldn't have routed it worse. Seems to make the course almost unwalkable.

Then 6-7-8 and kind of 9 all look to be the same holes as Clark to finish. And there wasn't anything exciting about those. Just some back and forth par fours, no dog legs, bunkers, elevation changes, etc. Just a few boring holes to finish.

I'll reserve final judgment until it's finished and I've played it, but it doesn't look promising. Does anyone know who they got to be the architect? Should've hired Doak.

When I saw the layout, I was thinking the same thing. I was hoping that they would change something but after going to the driving range the other day and seeing the work being done, I guess they are not.

Looks like a tee box on other side.

Seems like 5 should be 1 for ideal walking path but they wanted to start and finish at same spot (assuming near clubhouse).

Looks like 3 and 4 are just 15 and 16 at Dumas.

1 green looks ginormous.

Agree that the walk from 4 green to 5 tee looks terrible.

I never played Clark, so I don't know what those holes are like.

Whatever happened to the vision of big shared greens?

It's different for sure. Having played Clark park everyday for 4 summers it looks like the new #9 is old 8 tee box to old 2 green

#1 seems like old #1 tees to a new green pushed back closer to the service road for Dumas clubhouse

2-3-4 are current Dumas holes

I am seriously suprised that they are having the course cross a road, as The First Tee does not like to put kids in situations of crossing roads (this is part of their curriculum for keeping kids safe or at least it was when i worked there).

the distance between 5 & 6 is asinine!

I know there is a "bigger vision" here. But take 9 holes from Dumas and pimp them out and close Clark. Or move the soccer fields to Dumas and use the soccer fields to the left of the range as holes.

They have a ton of land between 5 and 6 that they could have routed holes in to avoid the trip out to Dumas. Hell, make 5 a long par 5 basically from just right if 1 green to 7 green. Then play 6 the same. 7 becomes a par 3 and 8 and 9 stay the same. There is no topological feature that I'm aware of that would prevent this layout. Maybe I'm wrong. But it's a flat piece of land. You can do anything.

I can see BREC saying we are putting the zoo here and here, and you need to build a golf course on what's left as cheap as possible. So they used the layout of Dumas and rerouted Clark to get number 1 close enough to use those three holes. Then threw 5 down in the middle to get them back to Clark.

It's just uninspired. Maybe the greens will be tricked out. But from looking at the construction so far, it doesn't look like they are moving a lot of dirt to create any features.

Does this eliminate the Raising Cane's Dog Park?

I legit think I've seen more Instagram rap videos being filmed in the parking lot than I have dogs

They are ruining the entire park just to "make improvements" to the zoo which will result in minimal if any increase in attendance. The whole ordeal is a joke.

I think this is dramatic. Dumas/Clark golf course wasn't some amazing place. The rest of the park outside of zoo wasn't amazing. Very little to "ruin".

OK, I'll agree that the word "ruin" was not the best choice. They are however downgrading the rest of the park with their attempt to save the zoo.

The Zoo should have moved when the option was on the table a few years ago, but racism was screamed and the plan didn’t move forward.

Honestly, it was racist. So many people act like the Zoo is in a War Zone. It isn't. It is a short drive too. In most cities a 20 minute drive to a one off event is nothing. Y'all will tell us Dumas was ok but Zoo bad location-wise.

Then, even if you wanted to move it. No one could justify the cost of building it on prime real estate.

I haven’t played Dumas in 20+ years and haven’t been to the Zoo in 10 years or so.

If I’m driving that way, I’m skipping that course and playing Copper Mill, Beaver Creek or the Bluffs, and if I want to head to a Zoo, I’m bypassing the local option (because it sucks) and going to Audubon in NOLA.

I've heard the greens are still each gonna be around 9000 sq ft with 2 pin positions.. you can see from that pic the forward tees on 1 that are across the swamp area

I worked there too. For 2 or 3 summers during college I was a First Tee instructor. Early 2000s.

Tracy was in the shop.
