Yeah, I just walked past the seventh green and the cypress stumps and cypress trees are no longer affecting it. The green really is in poor condition.
Sandy spots in the middle of it. Rough patches. Unintentional undulations.
Not good after a redo just a year ago.

Solid post above.

Now where do I point my pitchfork?

I think City Park could be much better if no carts were allowed. Carry/push cart only.

On a related note, the new cartpaths are nice, except for the giant cement area that they installed short and right of #4 green. It's basically a huge golf ball launching pad that sends decent, but unlucky, tee shots straight into the lake across the street. Maybe that was intentional? Idk.

There had to have been a better way.

I would selfishly love that and the course wouldn't have to maintain golf carts which would be nice, but it would severely limit kids, seniors, and newcomers' desire/ability to play for a course that already fits these groups really well, especially during the hottest months of the year.

Audubon has found a way to make a short course stay in consistently decent shape

I was at Audubon about 2 weeks ago, and it hurts me to say that the greens are in the worst shape that I've ever seen them. Worse than Bayou Oaks North, which is hard to believe. Not sure what the problem is but it looks like this could take quite a while to fix.

You know that BREC is going to simply raise the fees by 2-3x and not do anything to fix anything.

The #7 green is very frustrating. I've hit some of my best drives into this hole recently but I'm consistently 3 putting my putts that, literally, break 3-4 times.

But really, other than that I've been happy with City Park. I can play 9 holes for $8 walking during the week and get just enough of a workout without being useless. I do not want to see the price triple, but they can definitely sort #7 out.

Haven't played City Park since December, but even then #7 green looked like something at Celebration Station.

Instead of fixing the greens, they installed cart paths that literally nobody asked for.

Expand the greens to the size of the ones at Clark and put two flags on each green. #5 green is a great size. Make the rest like that. I'd happily pay more to play there if they did that.

I think I lay this out every time City Park is discussed. Obviously blow up every green and start over with bigger greens with bold contours. Think Metairie's greens. Just steal your favorite 9 greens and copy them inch for inch.

Use good grass on the greens that can actually be maintained as greens as opposed to the poa that is there now.

Would have two pins per green like they are doing at Clark.

Expand the current tee boxes to make them bigger where they currently sit.

Remove all the bunkers from the entire course.

Wall to wall fairway grass. No rough.

I would expand 1 green and 8 green to where they connect and have a big, double green there.

Trim the trees back on 3 so you can actually land a shot in the fairway.

Level the tee boxes on 7.

I'd either add a big bunker (I know I said no bunkers) where the big tree used to be. Or I'd dig the lake out more and create a smallish portion of the lake towards where the tree used to be. When the tree was there, the options were there and you had to think about how you wanted to play it. Now that the big tree is gone, it's driver over the trees to the big part of the fairway.

Add back the old tee box on 9 and make it internal OB so you don't have people hitting 3w at the blind green.

It is truly absurd. Honestly can't see how they can actually mow the green.

Your heads and hearts appear to be in the right place. Why not share this with BREC during their "Imagine Your Parks" planning process. Just go to the BREC website for a link to a currently active survey.

Here's a link for a BREC survey now being conducted that provides space at the end to tell BREC directly what you think and want at Historic City Park Golf course.

Hey man, think you can give me a link so I can tell brec what I think about the historic city park golf course?

Would be much appreciated

I really think we should stop comparing Historic City Park Golf Course to Audubon Park. When I lived in NOLA in the 70s and 80s, it was much worse than City Park ever was. City Park can be truly great. Let's work to make it that way. Respond to BREC's "Imagine Your Parks" survey on their web site and make your views known.

I think it’s the frustration with it’s lack of maintenance and planning when we all know BREC has deep pockets.
