I'm not invested in the failure of Microsoft or GameStop.
I plan on having both Xbox and play station, but will probably have play station first.
As for GameStop, I hate their business model. Let's give a person 7 bucks and then turn and sell that same game for 49.
I prefer to sell my games on amazon.
However I doubt either company will allow this in the near future. Like most, I believe that this generation will really usher in digital downloads. Last gen started it but this gen will. Thrive on it. Especially with both companies offering cloud type programs.

why are some people in this thread so invested in the hope and prayer that Microsoft fails?
I am just completely disappointed by the XB one. Neat gizmos, sure. . .but they seem angry at the gamer community.
No BC, used game fees, keeping the rechargeable battery industry afloat. . .
They lost me. I'm sure that means nothing to you or MS.

We live in a capitalistic country. I don't hate anyone with a sound business because I am not a commie.
If they were doing something illegal or shady to make money that would be a different story but people make the decision to sell them the games. They aren't holding a gun to their heads.

1. You don't even know that Microsoft is doing that.

A report on Wired, though, indicates that games will be tied to user accounts. Should someone else try to use that disc, they would then be given the option to pay a fee to do so.
[Related: Xbox 360 games won't work with the Xbox One]
That's been corroborated by Kotaku, who was told that Xbox One games will require one-time activation codes. Games will be linked to your Xbox Live account. If you want to play that game using a friend's account on another Xbox One, however, you'll have to fork over the list price.
"The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One," Microsoft VP Phil Harrison told Kotaku. "They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live."
It's a bummer of an answer, though Harrison hedged his bet by noting that the company was working on another solution that would somehow let gamers sell or trade titles online. Either way, this can't please GameStop, who rely on the re-selling of game discs themselves to make a profit on used sales.

Microsoft is now denying that there will be any used game fee:

All of those tweets are from yesterday from their support's twitter. This was at the same time Phil Harrison was contradicting what they were saying. Microsoft's most recent stance is they will release details later and you'll be able to sell games back to physical retailers.

Well they seem to be pretty adamant with their denials on something that's supposed to be known at a later date, even to the point of attempting to have articles removed that talk about it.

I don't hate gamestop for that. They offer the prices and people willingly accept them.
Now are the people that do it wasting their time and money, in my opinion yes, because I'm a buyer in the used game market on ebay and other places and those games go for way more than gamestop pays them.

You would always be able to. The fee doesn't counteract that action, just makes it annoying because you have to pay a fee to activate. That is unless they change the policy before launch (which has to happen after all the negative press, right?)
Posted on 5/22/13 at 10:56 pm to Roaad
you're disappointed because they didn't show more gaming clips? we know the Xbox One will be a great gaming console, everyone does, why would you solely focus on that with Sony not showing anything at their reveal and E3 around the corner?
We are both biased, clearly, I'm just want you to admit it

This is the point people seem to miss when they keep posting you can resell the game.

the current gen and this next gen systems are primarily for what purpose? online gaming
gaming with friends. gaming with a community.
why would anyone who is willing to spend $300-500 on a console wait for the price to drop and buy the game used?
people want instant gratification and to play what their friends play when they play it.
the used/borrowed game argument is lame.
I say this a lot, the poor being poor thing. but besides kids, if you can afford a $500 console, why can't you afford a $60 game?
if not, stop gaming and get a fricking job
