It was most certainly a big deal, as it dampened the quality of the online environment. Not from an infrastructural standpoint, but in terms of the community.
Sony obviously realized this and is making a correction. It's surprising, however, that Microsoft would diminish one of the features that is so integral to the XBL community.

Just the other day, you, ouaron, and a bunch of others were saying it's stpuid to use the past to justify the future when we were talking about how far behind PSN is on this gen and now it's OK since this one favors Sony.

I honestly don't know anyone that uses that cheap piece of crap that comes with Xbox. It won't keep people from getting a headset just like it didn't for PS3.

Who cares if either come with headsets.
I actually prefer them not to. I can buy a really nice one and hopefully it means less stupid kids on the airwaves.

why would I want them to throw in a cheap $20 mic that I won't ever use anyhow?

I agree with alot of your comments and disagree with just as many.
The poor comments are pretty lame. Just because you have the money doesn't mean you have to spend it. There are alot of crappy games I have bought for a few bucks that I would never buy new at 60. Buying used doesn't make you poor, just like using an in box headset doesn't. Some people aren't hardcore enough to buy tritons, TBs or Astros. Doesn't make them cheap though.

I understand being a college student or someone straight out of college or someone with a family being on a budget and not going full out financially for gaming. nothing wrong with that.

I do plan on purchasing a new headset soon.
I've had triton ax pros for a few years and loved them but the mic has crapped out and a new mic is not available.

I'm gonna keep using my Tritons until the next gen, they are only a year old and still in good shape.
Im looking for Astros next time around too. Just wish you didn't have to buy the mix amp on top of an expensive headset
